P90x or Insanity Workout?

P90X or Insanity? Which one should I get?
For the past couple weeks I have been asked this question repeatedly: P90X or Insanity Workout? Which one should I get? So let me go ahead and share my point of view.
It all boils down to what your goals are and what kind of workouts you prefer. The very fact that you are checking out these workouts already tells me that you are probably in good shape. For sure, neither program is for beginners.
Both programs are pretty intense and will honestly take your workout and your body to the next level. I have been working out for about 15 years, (cardio and lifting) and consider myself to be in pretty good shape, but let me tell you, EVERY TIME I AM DONE WITH A P90X WORKOUT, I CAN FEEL IT BIG TIME!
If you prefer a workout that will tackle specific body parts at a time I would recommend P90x. P90x splits up the routines - for example one day you might do chest and back, then another you might target arms & shoulders, followed by legs & back, or chest shoulder & triceps. It also has a plyometircs workout, a yoga workout, a kempo routine, a stretching routine and an ab routine. It’s based on the principle of muscle confusion, and allows you to add intensity by using bands or weights. P90x consists of 12 workout routines, a calendar, a nutritional plan and a fitness guide. To perform the workouts you will need basic fitness equipment such as resistance bands or dumbbells , and a chin up bar.
What I sometimes do is write down the P90X workout routine and do it at the gym where I have plenty of equipment and chin up bars to hang from.
However, if you like working out using just your body weight and to be able to pretty much workout anywhere, then go with Insanity. Insanity has a more of a “cardio and plyometics” kick to it, and in every workout you will combine cardio and muscle toning/definition exercises. It was based using the principle of max interval training. With the Insanity basic package, you get 10 workout routines, a nutritional plan, a calendar and a fitness guide.

Anyone wanna be truly crazy insane? do both P90X and Insanity at the same time, P90X in the morning and Insanity in the afternoon. This is truly the most ridiculous thing i have ever tried, yet the results were AMAZING! Bring it!
Wow. Two a day. I have been alternating one and then the other every other day and have had great results.
hi my name is jonathan Calzada and i have done the 90 days of p90x.
I used to be 249 pounds and now i’m 185 pounds p90x is great to make your body look great but if you realy want to have abs do the insanity, i’m doing in it at the same time by combing the two programs i’m gating great results
Good luck, Jonathon! Doing both at the same time is a grueling option, but it sounds like you’re kicking butts and taking names!
Bigtime, I’m also starting saturday with both insanity and p90x, I wasn’t sure which to do first but I think I will do what you said and do P90x in the morning and insanity in the afternoon/evening. I work from home so have time to spare and want to get in great shape fast!
If you wanted to get really big results, would it be better to do Insanity in the morning in a slightly fasted state (eat two bananas) then P90x in the afternoon? I thought Insanity was more cardio-based, making it better in the morning.
Truth be told, eric, both of these programs are so extreme that doing them BOTH at the same time is such a crazy level of intensity that you had best be in FANTASTIC shape already before attempting it. The sheer amount of calories needed for just one program is insane–to do them both? You’ll be needing to consume some 4,000 or 5,000 calories just to keep up, and sleeping like 12 hours to allow your body to recover.
Assuming you’re ready for this level of intensity, and know what you’re doing, then I’d suggest doing INSANITY in the morning in a slightly fasted state if you’re looking to burn more fat. Depending on how much you ate the night before, your body might be low on glycogen, forcing your to turn to your fat reserves or making you ‘bonk’. So yeah–but then P90X will be making you bulk up, so it’s sort of contradictory.
My advice? Either find a way to blend them together (swap in some INSANITY workouts for P90X cardio and plyo), or do just one of them hardcore, and then switch to the other. To do BOTH at the same time is crazy intense!
I’ve haf p90x for years, when it first came out. Thought my mom had thrown them out, I was so pissed but it turns out she still had the dvds, not the workout schedules or the nutrition book :(. And then I heard about Insanity, I’d love to try it but I loved p90x. Thought about putting them together myself or doin one or the other, ended stumbling on this site lookin for some answers. It would be really awesome if u let us know how its going for u doin both of them at the same time.
I have seen both p90x and Insanity on TV and I think they look like pretty awesome workouts. My only question though, is what do you do after you have completed the 90 day and/or the 60 day workouts. Is there a maintenance program or, do you just start over again?
Howard, there are different options depending on the workout. Some people go right back through Insanity after a little break, able to get more out of the workout once they are in better shape. Other people buy the upgrade, a new set of extreme DVD’s that make the workout even more challenging.
P90X has a follow up program called P90X Plus–it includes more intense DVD’s, and takes it up a notch.
But in general, yes–you can switch between the two, or do them over with the new upgrades, or mix them together to find a combination that works for you. Lots of choices!
I am pretty overweight. I don’t care about lifting 400 lbs or anything. I just wanna lose weight. I’m at 220 lbs right now and I am only 5′5”. Which program would fit me better insanity or p90x?
Hey Shaun, to be honest, I don’t think either program is ideal for you to just jump into. Both are considered ‘extreme’ workouts for a reason–they require a very solid basic level of fitness to even begin with. If you’re just now getting into shape, and are determined to make yours a success story, and not just another statistic in the burn out lane, I’d advise you to be wise and start with something like Power 90. Otherwise, you’re liable to hurt yourself, or your joints, or simply become discouraged as you realize that the intensity level required by these workouts is set for already experienced athletes.
I don’t want to sound negative! But trust me, I’ve done these workouts, and if I hadn’t already been in excellent shape, I would have been destroyed. So be smart, be realistic, and start with the Power 90 program. However, if you really, really are determined to do either INSANITY or P90X? I’d advise you to go with P90X.
I’m a former athlete, and am in pretty good shape already. 5′7″ and 125, however I can’t seem to get defined abs, there’s always a little pudge hiding them. I was thinking about trying Insanity, would this help finally give me the abs I want?
Marie, I am usually hesitant about giving people advice on how to show their abs, since most people don’t understand that the basic requirement is to simply lower your body fat, but in this case: yes! Insanity is a intense cardio workout, which works at the threshold of your anaerobic capabilities, and as such, after sixty days of mind blowing exercise? You will have shed that pudge. Just look at the test crew that exercises in the videos and check out how they look after finishing their own 60 days.
Of course you have to eat right, but if you get the nutrition down and really throw yourself into INSANITY? You’ll shed that pudge like water.
Thanks for the advice Phil, I ordered Insanity yesterday, I can’t wait to see the results! : )
Good luck, Marie! You’re going to love the results!
hey i will do the p90x classic version first then do insanity
Good luck, David! Let us know how it goes!
Will insanity build leaner or bigger muscles?
Hi, I’ve heard great things from friends about p90x however I saw the insanity infomercial and it looks awesome! I however am probably not like many of you! Growing up I was an athlete, played 3rd base and played it hardcore even through injuries, I was nuts! But I gaine a lit of weight and with the help of weight watchers, healthier eating habits and running about 5 times a week and doing a half marathon I shed about 90 pounds. I am 5′5″ 145 evenly proportioned hourglass figure. But I want to tone my abs, I don’t expect 6 packs but just to be tighter! I truly need a still seargant to make me workout after I’ve started I push myself most if the time past my breaking point.
So basically I’m just not sure which one to go with. I’ve done the Jillian Michaela workouts and I’m sure you find her to be low on totem pole her workouts were good and well balanced. But I’m past that!
Help lol
big John: Insanity will make you leaner. For bulk, go for P90X!
Angela–first off, congrats on your successes! Losing 90 lbs and running a half marathon is awesome. That kind of mentality and dedication might see you through INSANITY, tough as it is. And Shaun T will definitely be the sergeant you’re looking for. However! You have to be honest with yourself–are you ready for an extreme workout? The nice thing about ordering Insanity is that if you decided it’s too hard, you can send it right back and get a refund within 30 days. Either way, good luck, stay motivated, and let us know how things go!
I’m doing Insanity mid way and it’s giving mind blowing results to shed fat…I see some posts about doing insanity in the morning, that’s just not right, insanity is a max interval program that pumps up your heart rate, and your body’s heart rate has a lower max capacity in the morning vs late at night, this has been proven and it just works against the workout, so best to do insanity at night where your max heart rate is higher than the morning hours…
Hey guys. Im in the service. Ive been a runner since higg school, where I was on the x-country team. Back then I was 5′4″ and about 120. Pretty lean. After my senior year, I put on 20 lbs of muscle over the summer by lifting, taking protein and doing more intense interval workouts on the track. So from the time I was 17 to about 25, I was at 138-140lbs, began running longer distances (10ks and halfs… congrats Angela) and performed circuit training with weights about 3 times a week. Over the last year however, Ive had no time to work out or run as recruiting has taken my time. I ballooned to 160lbs, which is pretty heavy for my frame. Still, I was still able to perform above average in fitness tests… but I feel the difference and a lot more sluggish, so I knew it was time for a change. So I had to figure out a new way to work out. I started working with P90X for about 3 weeks ago. During that first week I also heard about INSANITY… For me, like Phil explained, the best plan was to combine the 2 regimens. I continue to do the resistance and weight training part of P90X (to include Ab Ripper), while in those in between days I mix it up with the INSANITY cardio, pure cardio and plyo circuits, with my rest day usually consisting of some rest or Yoga X. I think this is the best route for me since I am still looking to cut down my BF % back to single digits and INSANITY will help with that. P90X will take care of defining my upper body without getting me to bulked up since ill be doing the INSANITY cardio circuits. Ive been at it for 3 weeks. Truth is I just needed to exercise again. Being in the military we exercise on a daily basis. So now that I started doing P90X and INSANITY I definitely won’t stop. maybe for a week or so after 90 days, but even then I will probably do some light jogging, or chin ups, dips just to keep active, but not so many that my body won’t be able to recover. these last 3 weeks have been very intense as far as INSANITY. P90X reminds me of the circuit routines I use to do, and so I’m loving doing that again. So, even if Im getting up at 5 am to fit in the workouts, its something Im willing to do since I dont have time to drive to or from a gym on a daily basis.
I can definitely feel the difference. I seem to have more energy throughout the day.
Any advice Phil?
I don’t kno what to do or where to start. I am 5ft 6 180lbs. I am very evenly proportioned but I want to tone up without losing my womanly curves. I love muscle but I like my hourglass shape. im hesitant to do all cardio bc I want to build muscle too. help?
Jonathon, it sounds like you’re on top of your game. You’ve got an excellent split going, you’re aware of your limits and what your body can handle, and your commitment really comes through your post. My only piece of advice is to really listen to your body. Sometimes when you’re 110% dedicated like you are, there’s a tendency to ignore warning signs in order to keep pushing on and keeping it extreme. Be sure not to do that! You’re coming right up into the period of time where your body might start manifesting an injury, and as hard as it might be to listen and maybe ease up a little, do so if you pick up on a red flag.
Otherwise, keep up the intensity, and let us know how the split continues to work for you–sounds like 2010 is going to be an awesome year for your fitness goals!
Kels–I have exactly the right answer for you. Go check out our Brazil Butt Lift product. It was designed by the trainer of Victoria Secret models, who wanted to firm up their curves but not get bulked up. It’s an excellent mixture of samba, cardio and ballet, and I think you’ll love it–it’s turning out to be one of our most popular products, and for an excellent reason!
KC–where did you get your info on the max heart rate stats? Not doubting you here, but would love to learn more about it. Also, even if you’re operating at a lower heart rate in the morning, you’re doing all that crazy exercise on an empty stomach after fasting all night, something that forces your body to scramble for energy, often causing it to burn more fat than it would later in the evening. So, depending on your goals, a morning workout can be excellent indeed!
hi, im confused as to which direction to go in and if insanity would help me out…. Im a male 5′10 about 190lbs with 20%body fat, i do go to da gym regularly! i am tryin to get da body fat down, to b leaner, yet i also want to gain muscle eventually and be more muscular! what would u seggest i do…? any help would b appreciated! thank you
Hey Phil…….need your advice. I REALLY want to do INSANITY but I don’t think I’m at that level just yet. I have not REALLY been working out for the past 10 months. My son had bone reconstructive surgery and his care required me to have very little time for ANYTHING else. Now that he is going back to school I have the time to workout again. I don’t want to bulk…..my thighs are already big enough. I have always had a personal trainer, but after seeing Shaun T’s Insanity……….I REALLY WANT TO DO IT,……….What do you think?
Hey, I am trying to shed the last 20 pounds and finally be at the not overweight BMI for my height. I am 5′9″ and 189. I run about 15 miles a week and do cardio machines 2 other days. I can’t lift weights now b/c of an injury to my index finger. I am in the Air Force where weight/waist is important. I am in fairly good shape and have done all of the workouts for P90X, I have not finished the program, but I can’t do it now. Is Insanity a good thing for me to do since I can’t have free weight workouts? What do you think?
Heya Nate,
Sounds like you’re ready for INSANITY. The lack of weights and the fact that you’re capable of running 15 miles as well as doing cardio machines means you probably have a pretty decent cardio engine going, and INSANITY will definitely melt those last 20lbs off (as long as you take the nutrition just as seriously). There are a number of moves in the workout that require you to get into the push-up position, but if you can handle that, you should be fine. Honestly, if you’ve done a decent amount of P90X, you should be aware of the kind of intensity you’re in for.
So yes–give those cardio machines a break, and try INSANITY. Remember, it’s got a 30 day trial period, so if you don’t like it, you can always get a full refund. But it really sounds like you’re ready to break through some plateau’s and take it to the next level, so good luck, and get ready to dig deep and go! Let us know what you decide, and how you progress along your fitness goals–we’ll be rooting for you!
Hey RC,
First off, congrats on your son’s return to health. Your commitment to him for ten months shows that you have what it takes to see something through to the end, which bodes well for your commitment to INSANITY. However, that said, 10 months out of the gym means your body is probably no longer ready for something as extreme as Shaun T’s workout. Remember: INSANITY isn’t going anywhere–it will be there waiting for you for when you’re ready for it. It’s not a question of mental toughness–clearly you’ve got that–but simply a question of whether your body is ready for that kind of stress. Joints, muscles, your blood pressure, all of those need to be at a certain level of conditioning before you can jump into the deep end of the pool.
My suggestion? Pace yourself. Be wise. Do a program like Power 90, and then, in three months time, attack INSANITY and destroy it. Much, much better than the other way round. Fitness, after all, is a life long journey, not a race. So if three months prep can help you become a success story? Than I think it’s definitely worth it. Good luck, and keep me posted as to what you decide and how you do!
Heya Karan,
Trust me, I know how frustrating and confusing all this can be. Everybody seems to have a different opinion about what’s the ‘right’ thing to do. It sounds like you haven’t been exercising as much recently as you would like, but now are ready to start. Excellent, and congrats! However, jumping into an extreme program like INSANITY will most likely result in burn-out or injury if your body isn’t ready for it. Think about this: Shaun T’s workout crew started off already as spinning instructors and the like, and they got their butt’s kicked. It really is that intense.
My advice? Treat fitness like a really hot bath. Ease into it slowly, surely, and gradually. Don’t dive in head first. Start with a program like Power 90 which will help you get into solid, good shape, and then from there attack INSANITY and really ramp it up to the extreme level. Remember: fitness is a journey, not a two month experience. If you’re serious about a total body transformation, pace yourself, focus on your goals, and make wise, mature decisions about how to reach them! Thus investing the first three months on conditioning your body first is definitely the way to go. Good luck, and stop by occasionally to let us know how you’re doing!
Hello…I have mastered the Slim In 6 series for 2 years now and I feel stuck in a plateau. I have toned up quite well with the series but I think my body is so used to it by now that it’s just maintaining what I’ve got. I can’t decide between stepping up to INSANITY or P90X. I don’t want to bulk up exactly, however I would like to have more definition to my muscles. INSANITY seems to be more of what I like, the cardio and fast pace, as well as the high calorie burning benefit. Will INSANITY give me the muscle definition I’m looking for?
Kelly, congrats on two years of working out! That said, it definitely sounds like you’ve hit a plateau. Time to change it up. INSANITY will not bulk you up, but it will help lower your body fat and give you the definition you want–think about it this way: it’s a perfect storm of plyometrics (jumping) and calisthenics (using your own body weight against yourself like in push-ups). So if you follow the diet, and do the work outs, you will definitely see the results you’re looking for. With 2 years of Slim in 6 under your belt, I say it’s time you went for it, and took your work outs to the next level. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
Hey Phil…..Thank you so much for your advice and your kind words concerning my son. Ordering up some Power 90……… I will keep you posted on my progress.
No prob, RC! Sincerely wish you the best of luck, and I know that you’ll do great. One last piece of advice: take the nutrition side as seriously than the work outs. The key to success with any fitness program lies in eating right, working out, and getting enough sleep. Missing any of these key components will make it impossible to get the kind of success you’re gunning for.
Good luck!
Oh wow… Pure cardio this morning at 430… Ripped me apart… as in, I LOVED IT!!! I cant remember when I’ve worked this hard. Maybe doing interval repeats of 200 and 400 meters at the track back in high school. Loved it. Cardio Recovery (INSANITY) tomorrow, along with some Ab Ripper X, and chest and back (P90X) the day after… I’m really feeling it. the cardio in INSANITY is really a step above that of P90X and is just the mix I was looking for.
Hey Phil, here’s quick article on max heart rates I found on a quick search, I also read somewhere on magazine before as well…
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/10/health/nutrition/10best.html
hi my name is franklin
i just want to know something
i’m 17 i’m 5.8
i weight 155lbs
im not that fit but i do have few abs but not show it.
i been athelitc all my life i baically walk every where so im guessing im losing calories?.
but the fact is i want to get ripe basically have abs and have muscles in arms and legs
and i really want to know what to eat what and when?
i’m willing to do anything so insanity or p90x?
Hi. I’m a runner and I tried P90X but since I am in school and it was taking up lots of time ( I was doing it in addition to my running routine), I had to give it up. So sad! I felt like I was getting stronger, but also felt like my muslces were getting big (I’m a female and found it hard to fit my thighs into my skinny jeans after a month of p90x). Since INSANTIY combines cardio and anaerobic exercise, would it work so that I can l dont have to do my additional 1 hr of running? Also, would it bulk me up like p90x did? And how is it timewise. I like to think I’m fit (I can easily run for an hour and lift weights, but I should prob loose ~15 lbs to be at my peak. What do you think? Thanks for your help!
I am 5′6 249 all I want to do is drop weight don’t really care about having nice looking arms at least not right now. Lol so Insanity or P90x I know they are both intense but I am prepared for that so which one should I begin with??
Jonathon, Pure Cardio at 4.30 in the MORNING? You’re crazy. Clearly INSANITY is the perfect routine for you
And yes–as punishing as it is, Pure Cardio was my favorite as well. As Tony would say, “Pure Cardio. I hate it. But I love it.”
KC, thanks for the article. I just read it, and it does give me food for thought. I have to admit, I hate working out in the mornings–feels so much harder, and I have less bounce, as it were, less vigor. That’s why I’ve always done my workouts after I leave the office, 6pm-ish. So I can’t say I disagree! But now it’s going to be my turn to dig up an article or two on what I thought were the benefits of morning workouts, which are burning more calories on an empty stomach. Check back to this comment, because I’ll edit it to put in any articles I find!
Heya Franklin, welcome to the blog
First off, at 17, you’re just burning up with testosterone, which means you’ll lose weight and pack on muscle like no other time in your life. That’s the good news. However, at 17 you’ll also have the least patience ever, and will want to get extreme results right away. Which is the sure fire way to get hurt or burned out.
So you need to change your mentality: don’t rush this. Change your scope of thinking. You need to think in terms of the next 6 months, not the next 6 weeks. You’ll get crazy results if you’re patient and disciplined. First you need to get into decent shape–sounds like you’re generally healthy, but not in good athletic form. I’d recommend you take a look at either Power 90 or Rev Abs first. Both are 90 day programs, and you should think of them as a ‘warm up’ to either INSANITY or P90X. Check out Rev Abs especially, since you’re interested in developing your core. From there, make the jump to P90X or INSANITY, and you’ll be set. All of these programs come with nutrition guides that tell you exactly what to eat, so follow them religiously and you’ll be set!
PH–couple of things. First, take a look at the new Brazil Butt Lift workout that Beachbody just released. It was designed by an NYC trainer for Alessandra Ambrosio, the Victoria Secret model, who wanted exactly the same results you’re looking for–excellent figure without bulking up your legs. It’s a 90 day program that combines samba, ballet, and traditional cardio moves, and it’s getting rave reviews.
If that’s not your style, then yes, Insanity is the next logical place to jump to. It’s high intensity cardio, which means you’re working at near your max from anything from 30 min to an hour. It requires less time per session than P90X, and I think given your extensive running background you’d be well suited to its demands (it can be hard on the joints, for example). If you’re doing INSANITY, you most definitely do NOT have to do any additional exercise. For those 60 days you’ll be just doing INSANITY, and trust me, it will be more than enough. It won’t bulk you up, but rather will give you definition. Take a look at some of the women who give testimonials to see what bodies they end up with to give you an idea of what you’ll be going for. And if anything will melt those last 15lbs off, it’ll be INSANITY
Jose–INSANITY and P90X is designed specifically for athletes who are already in great condition and want to push it to the next level. It doesn’t sound as if you’ve been as active as you’d like of late, and I’m worried that throwing yourself into an extreme program could result in either injury or burn out on your part. Remember: it’s not enough to be mentally tough–your body has to be physically ready to handle the stress you’ll be putting on it. So, if you’re serious about your desire to shed pounds, I would think of this as a multi-phase journey. The first phase would be a more intermediate workout, that would warm you up, help you shed the first few pounds, strengthen your muscles, joints, heart and lungs. THEN you can start doing the harder workouts, and doing them right.
My advice is to check out the Power 90 program. It’s taught by Tony Horton, who also teaches P90X, and it’s the logical step before hitting his toughest program ever. Remember: people who are serious about getting into shape approach this as a journey, not a sprint. Start slow and steady, show that you’ve got the dedication to commit to the long haul, and within the next six months you’ll get stunning results
Phil,
I am considering doing Insanity. I have issues with my neck and right shoulder however. How difficult do you think this program might be for me? I was considering P90X but I think it’s going to be too much weight training.
Lisa, I’d love to give you a simple, direct response, but unfortunately it would be irresponsible for me to do so. I’m not a doctor, and I don’t know what the issues with your neck and shoulder are. As much as I’d love to encourage you to go forward with your fitness plans, I think your best move is to take a copy of Insanity to your doctor, explain to him what it involves, and get his opinion on whether you’re ready for it. Whatever your issues might be, I really hope you heal up quick!
Hey, I’ve been doing insanity for 3 months now. I’m 5′8 and was 167 lbs. I use to love lifting weights and just being active. I use to be 145lbs. I did insanity actually twice a day. Morning and Night. And ate healthy food. After 2 months I lost more than I expected. 167 to 140. And my abs are ripped! Each night that I do the insanity. I rest for a bit to cool down. Then I pump in some weights! Great work out! It became a daily thing. Just love the feeling of sweating. I suggest after you’re done with 2 months. repeat it over. Even if you do it once a day. Try twice a day :). My friend has been doin it and she use to be 150lbs and she’s about 5′3. now she’s 120lbs. Great results. Make sure to stay really dedicated and commited to doing so. Make sure to try and keep up. In the end, the results are lovely to see. Watch what you eat! make your workout worth it!
I am 6′1 255 pounds 19 years old. I play college football and I want to be in better condition come spring ball, which program should I get into the P90x or Insanity? I’m in good condition in the weight room and decent cardio condition. Which program would be best for these, getting my cardio up, getting stronger, and losing all the unnecessary fat?
Ken–Clearly you are a machine. Insanity, twice per day? I think Shaun T would tell you to go see a shrink. That’s madness! Congrats on your results though, and I love the enthusiasm. Have you thought about taking Insanity to the next level with the Insanity Deluxe Upgrade Kit?
Mike–If your goal is to shed some fat and ramp up your cardio engine, then I think Insanity is the way to go. As an athlete, you can probably jump right into this extreme program and thrive, though I bet even you will take a pounding at first. P90X is more of a mix of strength training, putting on muscle AND improving your cardio, which while normally might be exactly what you want, I think in a pre-season workout Insanity fits the bill. It will get your ripped, in fantastic cardio condition, and even has a good mix of football and basketball drills in there to help you with any bouts of nostalgia!
Give it a shot, and let us know how it goes!
Over the years I have been in good shape,as a Law Enforcement Officer I rarely have the time to workout. i’m 5′9 260 solid. what program would you recommend to get lean and ripped?
Curtis: First, it’s excellent that you’ve decided to get in shape. Commitment is the most important step. Second, I’d advise you to approach you fitness goals with some long term perspective–the worst thing you can do is rush it and hurt yourself or burn out. You need to give your body time to adapt to the changes you act on.
Given your weight and height, I’d suggest you start with Power 90. It’s by the same trainer that made the infamous P90X, Tony Horton, and will help you get started on your fitness journey. Three months from now you’ll be in radically different shape, and read for a more extreme challenge. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
you da man phil!
Quick note to readers over President’s Day Weekend–I’m going to be travelling to NYC till Tuesday. While I’m going to check the blog for comments, I won’t be replying till next Wednesday. So please feel free to ask questions–just be a little patient while I’m gone!
hi!
Im a 6`2” guy weighing 180lbs. I do some cyclying(30-40 mins every other day). While Im not fat I do have those love handles Id like to get rid of. Which program would you recommend?
So its been a few days since I’ve checked in… I was just browsing and noticed another beachbody coach who is implementing almost the exact same hybrid workout i am using. I missed a morning workout, so I just made up my shoulders and arms in the afternoon after I got home from work and followed that up with cardio power and resistance this morning.I also mixed in chest and back and it really wore me out. Im loving this hybrid INSANITY and P90X routine. How’s everyone coming along?
I’m in the Army and I’m looking to improve my PT scores. Would Insanity help me improve on the 3 events? I tried P90x but really didn’t see any improvement on my run. I’ve got both programs.
tonight will be my first night doing insanity!!! I am only 5ft tall and weigh 110, and i want to tighten up before the summer. Always get lazy in the winter LOL Is the best time to work out before or after eating? I get home around 5:30 and make dinner (my 11 yr old daughter is trying it out) and don’t want to work out too late i live on the 3rd floor of my apt complex.
Thank you,
Angie
I am 32 yrs old and had a baby 8 months ago, former college athlete. I was working out 2-3x a week until the last 5 months. Went back to work and juggling a family. I have P90 and loved it. I am 220, 5′8 and looking to get to my pre baby weight 165-175. I am interseted in trying INSANITY it seems more much more my speed (plyo, no weights). But wondering is that too aggressive seeing that I have not worked out in so long. What do you think?
I’ve been doing the insanity workouts for 3 and half weeks and Ive lost 5 lbs. I changed my diet some, I wasn’t sure what the average person who goes through insanity will lose in there first month. Im 6 foot 4 and weigh 249, how much harder is the second month compared to the first?
I’m a tall thin guy, somewhere around 6′3 and 145-155 pounds. I can generally say I’m in a somewhat decent shape. I’m very active, extremely energetic, and I have a small workout regime of my own. However, my metabolism is through the roof and it always has been. Because of that, I’ve always stopped my workout regimes, mainly for the fact that I don’t think I can stand to lose too much more weight. People often call me bird chest because my sternum is and always has been clearly visible, and sometimes you can even see my ribs.
I really, REALLY want to get into Insanity, and then into P90X, and hopefully into both later on, but I’m concerned that I’m going to lose even more weight and this is keeping me from pursuing getting into shape and getting the body that I want since I think I need to gain weight rather than lose it. I also practice martial arts once to twice a week and I know that it can’t help my current predicament. It seems like most of the workouts are tailored to helping people lose weight but they forget about the skinny guys, and I really don’t know what to do. Do you have any advice Phil?
Oh, and by the way, if it helps any, I am 20 and the martial art that I practice most often is Capoeira
Hi Phil,
I just discovered both of these workouts at the exact same time, and I’m having a hard time deciding which one to do. I’m male, 6′1, 195. I have a bigger lower body that I want to tone/lean down, since I’ve always done track or dance. I want to build my upper body more and get some strength, but still maintaining a lean look. Which one would you recommend?
Hi all! I am considering purchasing the Insanity workout program. I am 5′6″ and 240 lbs. I am wondering if this is a program I should start or would this be too advanced of a program to start out with.
Hey guys, just got back into town from NYC (flights were cancelled last night due to snow). Am going to answer questions, so thanks a million for having patience, and expect responses from me by tomorrow! Really encouraging to see how many people are getting serious about their health, physique and life style changes!!
GC! Sounds like you’re ready for a fitness program of some sort. Question is: what are your goals? I can’t recommend anything unless I know what you’re trying to achieve.
Jonathan–Have to admit I’m impressed with your level of dedication, and glad to hear that you’re finding the hybrid program a success. Are you noticing any results already? Keep us posted!
Jennifer–INSANITY will definitely help you with all cardio related exercises. It’s so extreme that you can’t help but improve not only running and general fitness but also your explosive power and core strength. Those are benefits that will affect all kinds of performance related trials, not just your PT scores! Good luck, and thanks for serving!
Best of luck, Angie, and congrats on taking the INSANITY plunge. I personally prefer working out just before eating, due to the 30 minute window or so that occurs right after a demanding workout when your body absorbs nutrients at a much more efficient level. You’ll find that you’ll simply burn that food faster. Also, trying to do INSANITY on a full stomach? TROUBLE.
Milah–love your ambition and desire to get healthy. That’s the most important step right there. Also, am very impressed with your caution–throwing yourself into something too extreme could really backfire if you hurt yourself or get burned out. My advice, given what you’ve told me? Try a more intermediate program, and work your way toward INSANITY. You’re looking to lose 45lbs, and should approach such an extreme endeavor with caution and patience. I advise you to try Brazil Butt Lift first–it’s fun, involves no weights, is designed by the trainer for the Victoria Secret models, and will help you get started on your fitness destination through a mixture of dance and cardio (it’s one of our hottest programs right now!). THEN, after you’ve begun to make progress, then get into something like INSANITY, and refine the results that starting with BBL has already given you.
Johnny, congrats on the success thus far! Everybody’s results will be different, depending on where they are when they start the program, but it sounds like you’re making good progress. Remember: it’s not just about losing weight–you could be exchanging fat for muscle, and thus not losing much weight but making radical changes in your body.
As for the second month? Well, it’s not called MAX for no reason
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
Darrick, I think the underlying problem here is not the exercise routine, nor even your hyperactive metabolism, but your diet. One of the key aspects of any successful workout is to eat right, to make sure you’re getting enough calories, and to fuel your exercise with high quality food. If you’re worried about losing weight, simply scale your diet to a higher level. Work out, and if you are still losing weight, add another couple of hundred calories to your diet. Work out, add calories, keep monitoring your progress, and eventually you’ll find a place where you’re gaining muscle instead of losing it.
I can’t emphasize how important it is to focus on your diet. I think you’re an ideal candidate for both INSANITY and P90X, as long as you eat enough high quality food. My advice? Go for P90X first. It will help bulk you up, and then when you’ve put on some muscle by the end of the third month, you can do INSANITY to get as lean as you like. But no matter which workout you do, make nutrition your priority. Figure out how much food you need, and then simply eat it. You’ll see–weight won’t come off, it will bulk up right on you!
Jason, it sounds like you’re in an ideal place. Having done track and dance will have prepared you for INSANITY, in that your joints will be strong, you’ll have a good cardio engine, and will be able to get the most out of the workouts. Given the emphasis on leaning down in your post, I think INSANITY is the way to go. It will help you shed the pounds, and all the calisthenics will help you develop upper body strength. Your legs will get toned, and the weight should come right off you–if you do the diet properly. Focus on the nutrition plan/diet as much as the working out, and you’ll do great!
Carrie, given what little information you’ve told me, I’ve got to admire your fierce desire to get healthy and also applaud your caution. My advice? Start with something less rigorous and more fun to ease you into your fitness journey. The worst thing you could do is hurt yourself or burn out. Try Brazil Butt Lift–it will help you lose weight and get toned even as you dance and have fun. Once you’ve finished your 90 days with Leandro Carvalho, THEN start thinking about INSANITY, because your body will be much better prepared for those extreme demands. Remember: have fun, eat right, stay committed, and in 3 months time you could be ready to begin the most intense workout of your life!
Phil,
I have been lifting and running for a long time. I feel like I have hit a wall and am not gaining anything. I want to build a little more muscle, and get a more cut look. What would you recommend P90x or Insanity?
Heya Nate, If you’ve been exercising for some time, then you’re in a good place to do either of these extreme programs. In the end, which you pick will depend on what your specific goal is. P90X involves resistance weight training, and thus will help you bulk up, while INSANITY involves intense cadio, and thus will give you the cut look. The issues are more complex (especially when you figure in nutrition), but to perhaps put it too simply, INSANITY will get you more cut than muscled, while P90X will get you more bulk than cut. Thus, if I had to make a recommendation? Do P90X, get more muscle, and then do INSANITY and take that new mass and shred it
That’s kinda what I was thinking of doing based on what I have read and since I’m not really where I want to be on size just yet. Thanks for the recommendation I really appreciate it.
Best of luck, Nate, and let us know how it goes–we’re very interested in hearing about your success and progress!
Hey Phil,
I am 5′ 11″ and weigh in at about 205. I played competitive baseball virtually my young/adolescent entire life and was a middle linebacker (with a typical middle linebacker build) in highschool and part of college; so I’m no stranger to INTENSE workouts. However, that was 10 years ago…
Most recently I have just been trying to focus on toning and definition (rather than bulk) by eating right and trying to fit in as much time at the gym as I can. On a week where I am not traveling on business I usually try to do cardio 3x per week (5 miles each time on the elliptical, treadmill or stair climber) and sprinkle in 2 intense total body workouts (such as the “300″ workout). I have noticed improvements on my general stamina and ability to complete these workouts, but do not feel like I am improving noticeably in terms of weight loss or definition no matter how hard i try to push myself or switch things up.
I have not tried INSANITY or P90X, but am curious to how they compare to each other and other intense total body workouts (e.g., the “300″ workout) and if I could expect to see better results utilizing one of those programs than my current regimen. Which would be optimal for someone like me (P90x vs. INSANITY)?
Phil,
Im a 23 year old female and was very active growing up with dance, gymnastics, cheering, track, basketbal, ect… although the past 5 years i havent been nearly as active and am now 5″4′ and 140 lbs. id like to loose around 10-15 lbs before toning what i have. i bought p90x awhile back but have not yet attempted it. i want something that will push me hard but yet i dont wanna push too hard and have to stop the workout to recover. do u think i should just start the p90x and see where i get or just hold off and get something easier first? thank you
Hi Matt,
Given your background, it’s clear you’ve got a solid base for excellent fitness. Your body will remember those long years of exercise even a decade later, and will make getting back into your top form much easier than for somebody who’s never exercised before. Beyond that, your regular routine of cardio with a few intense workouts sounds like enough of a platform for you to make the jump into either P90X or Insanity without hurting yourself or burning out.
Couple of notes: first, be aware that when you transition from inactivity to trying to get back into shape, weight loss is one of the worst indicators of success. Your body could well be substituting fat for muscle, meaning that your weight is going down little due to the recomposition going on. Second, you really need to hone in on your diet to effect real change. I don’t know to what extent you’ve changed your diet, but without a healthy, balanced nutrition plan and plenty of sleep, you won’t get the results you want.
That said, I advise you try INSANITY. If weight loss and definition are your goals, then INSANITY is your best bet. It comes with a comprehensive nutrition guide, and will break your routine of 5 miles x 3 days a week of cardio for a structured, intense workout that will bring you results if you stick to it. Further, it requires no equipment, so can accompany you on your travels. P90X is also excellent, but emphasizes resistance training and thus adding muscle over weight loss and definition, so perhaps after cutting down you can bulk up from a healthy base.
So try INSANITY, and keep us posted! I’d love to hear if Shaun T is able to help you break through this plateau your on!
Heather–I applaud your thoughtful consideration and commitment to getting back into shape! It sounds like you really know what a healthy body is like from your past, and are determined to get back. Now, don’t let that determination rush you into a mistake–just as you said, if you push too hard too fast you could hurt yourself or burn out. Think of your fitness journey like a marathon, and not a sprint, and realize that P90X will still be there ready for you when you’re ready for it. I think you’re absolutely right in considering a ‘warm-up’ workout before trying Tony Horton’s extreme workout, and thus recommend either Power 90 or Brazil Butt Lift for you to try first. Power 90 was Tony Horton’s first workout program, and will definitely get you ready for P90X, while Brazil Butt Lift is our dance based workout designed by Leandro Carvalho, the trainer for the Victoria Secret models. It’s a fun mix of samba, capoeira, ballet and traditional cardio, and could prove a fun, motivating way to get back into the swing of things.
Either way, let me know what you decide and how it goes–I’d love to hear your success story a few months from now!
Phil,
thank you for the advise. Im going to get one of the two programs u mentioned to start out. although im curious from looking at the website for brazil butt lift… it mentions a time or two about a totaly body workout but seems mostly to work the butt.. although i dont know any girls that would turn that down but most of my weight i carry is in my stomach, thats my main priority to start off. how do power 90 and BBL compare as far as a total body workout? being female of course i want to keep as much of my shape as i can but for now my main concern is to get my bfp back down. thank you!!!
Phil,
I have been thinking about these two exercise routines a lot lately. I am 18 years old and in shape. I am 6′2″ and weigh 166. I play basketball and tennis, so I am used to lots or cardio and a little lifting. I have a little fat on my stomach, but not much anywhere else. I would like to go from “skinny” to adding more bulk to my frame. I am really motivated as I want to be in shape for the summer, and before i move off to college. Which workout would you suggest for me?
Thanks
Hi Phil,
I am 27 years old, 5 feet tall and 119lbs. I have spent the past year doing Weight Watchers and getting in shape. I’ve lost about 25lbs and toned up quite a bit, but now I’ve hit a major plateau. I am a member of Gold’s Gym and do a variety of Les Mills classes, totaling 7-9 hours per week (kick-boxing, step aerobics, spinning, and BodyPump–high rep total body barbell lifting). I am comfortable with an intense level of exercise, but I am no longer seeing results from my current routine. I am trying to decide between Insanity and P90X. I would still like to slim down a bit (10lbs or so), but my main goal is muscle definition in the arms and abs (my legs are fairly toned already). Also, I want to get to a level of intensity where I don’t have to eat like a bird to stay thin! Which workout do you think would be best for achieving these goals? Thank you!
Heather, excellent question. The focus of BBL is as you said the butt–but the way the shaping and toning is achieved is through a total body transformation. The cardio you perform focus on the butt, but you’ll lose fat on the whole body for one simple reason. The muscles in the legs and your glutes are the largest in your body, and by focusing on them, you’ll be revving up your cardio engine and burning fat as a source of energy throughout your entire system.
Power 90 is the precursor for P90X, in that you use weights, you do a mixture of cardio, ab work, etc. It will get you into excellent shape, and the use of resistance training will definitely help you burn off fat. It’s the perfect way to prepare for P90X. BBL is probably more of a warm up for INSANITY, in that it will get you focused more on cardio than lifting weights.
Either way, you can’t go wrong! It’s more a question of style and what you think you’ll stick to than anything else
Jeffrey,
At 18, being fit due to your basketball and tennis, and with that kind of attitude, you’re totally in the best place possible to dominate these workouts. Not that they won’t be rough–they’ll kick your butt. But you’ve got so many growth hormones raging through your body that you’re going to adapt like a fish to water. My advice is to hit P90X. It will help you bulk up and burn off that fat in no time. Three months and you’ll have a total body transformation, but remember! If you don’t eat right? You won’t get the results you want. So focus 100% on your diet!
Amanda–First off, congratulations on all your successes! A year’s worth of dedication to your new lifestyle is incredibly impressive, and losing 25lbs is no mean feat. So well done! I definitely think you’re ready to ramp up the intensity of your workouts, and given what you’ve said, I would recommend P90X. While INSANITY would melt those 10lbs right off, it sounds like your cardio is already in great condition, and that you would benefit most from P90X’s combination of resistance training and cardio to get the results you want.
Further, P90X is so intense that you’ll need to eat twice as much as you’re doing now just to keep your energy levels up. So don’t worry about eating like a bird any longer
Resistance training with Tony Horton will help you burn the fat, will give you the definition, and challenge you in a way that all your cardio no longer does. Give it a shot, and let us know how it goes–I’d love to hear what kind of results you get!
Just kind of a follow up, what you said was true. I’ve only done a week of insanity, but when we ran yesterday I could already feel a difference. We would do sprints, then jog, them sprint, I noticed my recovery between sprints was really quick. Granted I’m still not a fast sprinter, which I think this may help because I heard it works fast twitch muscles, which is what I have problems with (I can run distance all day, but don’t ask me to sprint, I’m slow). Then running up the hills here (which always seems difficult because we never work our leg muscles beyond running) didn’t seem as difficult. And I also have this problem and never use my ab muscles for anything, so when I went to focus on them yesterday I noticed I was actually using them while I was running. Which is kind of exciting to see. I’m sure as I use the program more I’ll get better too.
Oh, and globe jumps are getting a lot easier. lol
Congrats, Jennifer! It sounds like you are making serious gains already, and it’s been just 1 week! Are you focusing on your diet? Are you getting enough sleep? Those elements will become increasingly crucial to your success as you continue to workout over the next few weeks.
And man. Globe Jumps. Don’t talk to me about Globe Jumps. ROUGH!
I was just thinking that I may do both! I have both P90X and INSANITY and can’t decide which would be best for me to do in order to lose body fat!
Both are amazing workouts.
I consider myself to be in decent shape, but I have been at a plateau for a while now, and I am ready to switch it up! I had a trainer this past summer, and really enjoy working out, but for the effort I put in, I am just not seeing the results I want.
I have been considering P90X or Insanity…what do you guys think??
I am very motivated, and just want to see results! My concern is I do need help with pull ups, should I wait until I can do them on my own to start?
I am ready for a change!
Ive been working out for a while now, not in great shape but descent. I have been running 3 miles a day along with some sort of work out 3-4 times a week. I am going to start the p90x on Monday, should I continue running every day?
Beth, P90X is an extreme workout. I’d advise you to stop running for the moment, adjust to the program, and if after a few weeks you want to throw in some extra running, then do so.
My bet? You won’t. P90X takes an all out effort! Let me know how it goes though, and how it ends up shaking out!
Lauren, tell me a little bit more about what your goals are so I can help you choose between P90X or Insanity. Both are intense and will break your plateau’s, but they will do different things for you. Either way, I’m excited for you!
Hey Phil,
I am 37 years old and a former college wrestler and track athlete. I used to weigh 145 about 7 years ago and in great shape but since 2 kids, 3 homes, and two jobs later I balloned to 180 pounds. I am about 5′6″ and am looking to get back into top shape again. I lift about 2-3 times a week with running about 2 a week for a total of about 3 miles each time. My workout weeks have been inconsistant but I am going to have a lot more free time with my work schedule and I am looking to do a 5k pump and run ( bench press your own weight then run 3.1 miles) at the end of May. I want to get down to about 150 pounds by then and keep my stamina up while trying to bench my weight 30 times for the pump and run. What do you suggest P90x , insanity, or both? Lifting and runing also to supplment those workouts also?
Hey, I have been doing the old beach body videos with Debbie Siebers and Tony Horton. I do legs, arms, buns, and two sets abs near every day. (I also try to ride my bike or do some sort of cardio exercise every day.) I am 5′7 and I weigh 122. I feel like it’s not that much of a challenge anymore and I feel like I’m at a bit of a plateau. I am thinking about doing the Insanity workout but I would like to get my legs nice and toned while working out the rest of my body. Does insanity sculpt the leg muscles? I can see through results of others that it definately works your abs (and i really want that to get rid of the layer of fat on my stomache), but I also want to work on my legs. Do you think that the Insanity workout is right for me? I want to have lean muscles rather than bulky, I’m a girl! Haha. Sorry, it’s a tall order! But any help would be great!
Hey guys, I’m 5″9 and I weigh 195. A year ago i used to weigh 225 and lost 30 pounds by myself without any workout program but just working out at home and putting in a little cardio. I was wondering which program is better for losing weight fast and gaining muscle at the same time, INSANITY or P90X? Although I am overweight, and according to the Wii Fit, I’m obese, I’ve been able to handle pretty well, doing Kenpo X, Cardio X, Plyometrics, Core Synergetics, and Ab Ripper X, the only thing I couldn’t keep up with was Ab Ripper X haha. I did all this last week. But my question remains the same, which program is better for shedding fat off fast and building muscle at the same time?
Hi,
I am researching the two programs and not sure which one best fits my needs. Which would you recommend for a female trying to lose weight and tone?
I don’t have a lot to lose - maybe 10-15lbs. Right now I am at the end of my training for a marathon and just want to lose some of the bulk I have gained while running.
thx
bigd–Congrats on both your determination and improved circumstances! Some time to focus on your health is worth gold. Your pump & run is very feasible. Given your background, determination and goals, I’d advise you to hit Insanity first. It will help you shed weight, build on your cardio base so that you get into great shape, and really help toughen you up. The run will become a cinch, and you’ll be looking and feeling great. Then! Since insanity is only a 2 month program? Switch over to P90X for the remainder of the days before your event to start focusing on bulking up and gaining in that upper body strength (though you’ll already be in great condition).
Don’t do extra ontop of the Insanity workout. Given your situation and specs, it should be a huge challenge already. Take it as it comes, and allow your body plenty of time to adjust to the intensity. Keep in touch, and we look forward to hearing how you do on the event in May!
Bethany, I think it’s definitely time you hit INSANITY. If you’re doing that much exercise and still on a plateau, something definitely has to change. Now, to be honest, INSANITY will burn that fat right off your body (if you eat right as well), and give you killer abs, and will also jack your legs. But some people do end up gaining muscle in their thighs and calves–there’s just so much plyo that you can’t finish the program with slender legs. Check out the test crew who did the program with Shaun T, and look at their legs–they end up with athletic, toned legs, not bulky, but not skinny and slender either. If that works for you (and I think those women look AMAZING), then go for INSANITY! Otherwise, check out Brazil Butt Lift. It was designed for the Victoria Secret Model Allessandra, who specifically did not want to bulk up her legs while still producing a killer body. Could be the right direction for you!
Sunny–Congrats on the huge success! Losing that much weight by yourself is an incredible accomplishment, and speaks volumes for your tenacity and determination! My advice is to hold off on P90X or INSANITY for a few more months, and get yourself into slightly better shape before attacking them. Consider Power 90–it’s by Tony Horton, and will get you where you need to be before jumping to P90X or INSANITY. Think of it as a 3 month warm up for the real thing (though Power 90 is already pretty rough!). As you know, this isn’t a sprint but a marathon, so take it slow, and make sure you get to the finish line feeling good and healthy!
Chrissy–check out Brazil Butt Lift! It’s one of our hottest programs, was designed for Victoria Secret Models, and will tone you up like you won’t believe. Take a look, and let us know what you think!
Thanks Phil.
I am going to order insanity tonight and have ordered P90x yesterday. I will post on the bolg biweekly to give updates!

bigd:
Excellent! I love how you’re gunning for this and wasting no time. That kind of determination and commitment is a truly winning attitude. Document your success story, let us know how it goes, and if you’d be up for it, I’d love for you to write up a guest blog post for the EFR blog and tell us how it went. Keep in touch, amigo–we’re rooting for you!
Hi,
I’ve been looking at both programs, and am not sure which one would best suit my needs. I’m a long distance runner primarily, but I also do a few triathlons (sprint & olympic distances). I would like a program that would help me sculpt my body, become stronger & faster. I don’t really want to bulk up, but I do need my body to be strong to help me maintain and push through my races. I really liked the preview I saw of the Insanity program, but with the cardio I already do training for my races, I wonder if it will be too much. Is the p90x my best bet, but will I really bulk up? Is the insanity a good program to change up my cardio in the off season, and then do the p90x when I’m training for my races?
Thanks
Susanne,
If you’re an advanced runner, and have specific running seasons and such, then it becomes tricky for me to give you specific advice. However, in general, I think you’ll find that Insanity will really benefit your running and accomplish all the goals you set out–becoming toned, improving your cardio engine, and gaining body strength. However, I’d be very careful about running AND doing Insanity at the same time. Try the first couple of weeks with just Insanity, and then if you feel like you have extra energy, work some runs back in.
Your final suggestion sounds perfect–do Insanity in your off season, and then switch to P90X during your season. The one thing I’d suggest further would be to switch in the Insanity workouts you loved best in place of the P90X Cardio programs.
But yes! Insanity will push your body into new levels of cardio fitness that running alone won’t help. I think you’ll love it–a great change of pace from the hours hitting the road, and it’s also just a really fun program!
Hi,
I’ve been an athletic person all my life. I played years of baseball and soccer so I think I have the mental edge needed to do one of these programs. I just started the insanity program. Prior to starting the program, I hadn’t been hitting the gym or running as often as I’ve been accustomed to (~10-12 months off and on light running/light dumbbell work), so I’m wondering if I could try doing both at the same time? I’ve started the INSANITY program (currently on day 4) and it’s a definite kick my ass program. After the workout I feel like I can’t move or do anything, but 4 hours later I feel like I’m ready to go again. Also, I know that every week there is an off day, can I skip it if I have the energy to go on? I think I know my body pretty well, but I don’t want to incur an overuse injury. With that being said, would you recommend trying both programs at different times of the day, or finishing one program than tackling the other? Or maybe even doing Insanity twice a day?
I’m 22 and currently 6′0 ~175lbs with ~14% bf (hydro static about a month ago). I’d like to get my bf under 10% and total weight in the 160’s. Also, what do I need for the p90x program? (dumbbell weights, etc)
Hi, Im in the Air Force and we do PT on a regular basis and i consider my self in good health, my question is which program will help me improve on push-ups sit-ups and a mile 1/2 run time so i can max out my new pt test? thanks
Hello! I’m female, 24 years old and I’ve completed my 90 days of P90X, and recently started it over again (I’m addicted!!!), I didn’t bulk up like some mentioned, but I’m also on a very restrictive vegetarian diet. I eat mostly fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc.
But then I saw the commercial for Insanity. Just curious if this would be for me or if I should continue with the P90X. I’m a former Marine, 5′6″, 135 lbs, healthy weight and toned. I want to REMAIN toned but also would like to shed some fat, would INSANITY be right for me? Would I lose my current muscle/strength by switching over? I feel like I’m in the best shape and strongest I’ve ever been, I’d like to switch it up and lose some weight with INSANITY but not lose all I’ve gained from P90X. Thanks!
Alan! It sounds like you definitely have TONS of determination and the right attitude. If anything, it sounds like you have too much What I’m most worried about is that your enthusiasm will cause you to take too much on at once, and burn out. If you’re only on Day 4 (probably more now), than hold off on doing anything else. Seriously–I can feel your burning adrenaline rush desire to get RIPPED from here, but be smart–give your body at least the first month of Insanity to adjust to this new intensity level. The worst thing you can do right now is push too hard, too fast, and burn out. And remember: it’s not like you’ve only got two months left within which to workout and then you’re done, but rather this is just the beginning. Pace yourself! Do the first month of Insanity, and if you’re feeling good, then phase in more. (also, take that rest day. trust me, take it.)
For P90X, you need free weights, and a pull up bar. A good plyo mat is also key, and then you’re set! Good luck, and let me know how it goes!
Frank, in one word: INSANITY.
It’ll kick your butt good, and leave you lean, mean, and bursting with energy. Take a shot, and good luck!
Melissa, first off, congrats on finishing P90X! As a former marine I’m not surprised you blasted right through it, but yes, I think it’s time you give your body a different challenge. Insanity will ramp up your cardio engine like crazy, will help you shed that weight, and as long as you’re getting enough nutrition, it will keep you where you’re at (though your legs and rear may get even more rock hard due to the intense plyo/cardio). So no, you would NOT lose all you have gained from P90X–you would instead switch things up on your body and continue to grow by forcing it to adapt to a new extreme workout. Something that doesn’t always come across in the Insanity commercial is that there is actually a lot of upper body work: Shaun T is a huge believer in using your own body weight for resistance, so there are tons of push ups, tricep work, all sorts of things that will keep your upper body in great shape.
Also, remember that Insanity is only a 60 day workout. After you finish, you could do a a new round where you blend P90X and Insanity together, making a custom program that hits all the spots you need so that you bulk and shred at the same time
I am looking for a wokout program to use by itself and with my triathlon training and would like to go with either P90x or Insanity. My main goal is to improve upper body strength/size to go along with lowering body fat and increasing general fitness. I like the shorter time frame (30-45 minute workouts) and the fact that you don’t need addional equipment with Insanity, but wonder if it would include enough upper body workouts.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Hey Phil- I graduated college a couple of years ago. During school I worked out religiously every day for at least an hour and a half just because I had the time. I was lean and weighed in around 180 lbs. Now, I have a full time job and I am sitting at a desk everyday and I have seen myself gain at least 30-35 lbs. I feel tired and worn out after a day of work, and I really have not been getting to the gym as much as I should. What is your opinion on which program I should undertake? I used to run 3-5 miles at least 3-4 times a week and lift everyday. I am not concerned with bulking up, but want to lose the lbs I have gained and get some more energy. Right now, I struggle with running 2 miles at a time… Any advice for me here? Thanks for the help!
Brian, what’s your time frame? Insanity is only 60 days–it will seem like forever while you’re doing it, but in the big scheme of things that’s really not that long. You could start with Insanity, boost your cardio engine and ramp up your energy levels, drop weight, and strengthen your lower and upper body first, and THEN hit P90X and put on the muscle on top of your lean base. Thing is, Insanity has tons of calisthenics, variations on push ups, tricep work and the such; so while it won’t bulk you up like P90X, it will certainly challenge you. So let me know a little bit more, but that’s my general advice
Plarz–I totally hear you on the desk job woes. What’s excellent though is that you have a huge foundation of fitness in your body, and your muscle memory will mean you’ll bounce back a lot faster than somebody getting started for the first time. What’s crucial is that you recognize that your situation isn’t ideal, and want to change. That’s the most crucial step. So, kudos!
Now, as to a program. I think your ultimate goal should definitely be INSANITY. With your background, and your stated goals, it makes the most sense. However, I’m unsure as to whether your body (not your mind, important distinction–you sound like you have the right attitude) is ready for that level of stress. So I suggest the following: either try INSANITY for a few weeks, knowing you can return it, no questions asked for a full refund (minus shipping and handling) and see if your body adapts fast enough (I think you’ll love the challenge), or get started with a program like Power 90 or RevAbs, and see them as the warm-up for INSANITY.
The key is to recognize that there’s no rush. Be wise about your approach. If you do INSANITY, it’ll most likely be a brutal experience, in that you’ll be pushing yourself really hard. You’ll get dramatic results, but by god will you have to earn them. If that doesn’t appeal (and again, I only recommend INSANITY because of your background), then I strongly advise a slower, steadier approach. Check out Power 90 and RevAbs, see if either of them appeal, and then check back in here and let me know what you’re thinking!
Phil- thanks for the advice. Right after I posted my question to you, I did go and check out the Power 90 program. After researching it and actually understanding what it is about, I really do feel like I would get a little “bored” with with program, or at least want something to challege me a little more. I know I am not in the shape that I was in college, but I do feel that I still have that foundation and would bounce back pretty quick in doing that program. (Like I said before, I usually lifted 6 days a week and did a decent amount of cardio 3-4 times a week) I was leaning towards trying insanity as well. I realize it is going to be extremely difficult right away, but if I pace myself and stick with it, I feel that I could really get some results.
With someone like myself, how would you reccommend I go into this program? I know a lot of blogs I have read say that you should focus on doing what YOU are able to do, not what the crew on the video does. I want to make sure I get the results and put in the work, but not get burnt out in the first month of doing Insanity.
Once again, I appreciate the advice and look forward to your reply!
Plarz: Ok, you’re going to go for INSANITY. I like that you’re approaching this strategically, and are going to try and do it right. So here’s my advice: listen to your body. When I did it the first time, I was so enthusiastic and excited that I powered through the first three weeks without paying attention to the growing pains and aches in my joints, and then hit a wall when I realized I’d pushed too hard. So listen to your body, and make sure to tell the difference between pain and a healthy ache. Second, like the other blogs have said, don’t let pride force you on when you need to pause and take a breather or get some water during the actual workout. Shaun T says over and over again that you need to watch your form, that you need to stop if it’s slipping, so do exactly that. Third, more than the workout, focus on the nutrition and getting enough sleep. These are CRUCIAL. If you cut corners here, if you get less sleep than you need, if you don’t have the calories to burn, you’re not going to be able to power through. And finally, I’d do it in the evenings and not the morning. Personally I would get nauseous on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, and always did much better in the evenings.
Check out this blog post where I spoke about some things you need to finish INSANITY.
Remember: Pride is your enemy. Be humble, be enthusiastic, but don’t let your ego get in the way. Listen to your body, get sleep and eat well, and you’ll do great! Come back to let me know how it goes, OK? We’re all rooting for you here at the EFR office!
Hi Phil,
I am bored with my current gym routine. I lift (total body) 3 days a week, teach Pilates 3 days a week, cardio (spnning or run/walk, smetime bootcamp) 4-6 days per week and yoga 2-3 times per week. I can’t give up teaching Pilates, but I was thinking of doing Insanity instead of my usual cardio and continuing to lift 3 days per week. I’ve borrowed P90X from frends and I love the Plyos, but I don’t have the equipment at home to fully do the routine.
Would this work or would I undermine the Insanity Program by continuing with the weights and Pilates?
Hi Kelly. First off, you sound like a fitness machine. It sounds like you’re doing up to two workouts day, to which I say, go you! You’re clearly in your own category. Even so, if you’re going to start doing Insanity, I’d recommend the following: drop everything except the Pilates for the first two weeks. Dedicate that time to Insanity, and see how your energy levels adjust. If, at the end of the second week, you’re still itching for more exercise, then throw in some weights. However–this is honestly the most extreme workout put on DVD, and I think it’d be wise to approach it with a little caution. Plus it sounds like you may be on the verge of over training; boredom usually indicates a plateau, where you’re no longer seeing the gains you were, and this in turn can indicate that your body is tapped out.
So: this is my advice: do only Pilates for a week to let your body refresh and refuel itself, and then hit Insanity for two weeks while doing your pilates. You’ll tear through it, and like I said, if at the beginning of week 3 you’re looking for more, gradually add weights to your routine.
Skeptical about taking that first week off? Read this article by fitness authority Lyle McDonald (especially the second half): The Importance of Rest. Should help you understand why I’m advocating it
Come back and let me know what you decide, and how it goes, and no matter what, best of luck!
Hey Phil,
Im about 5′10 165 pounds. I already attend the gym regularly but not for cardio. At the gym I focus soley on lifting weights and getting bigger muscles. I am not in bad shape but am no where near ripped (which is where i want to be!). If i want to get more shredded but get bigger at the same time which one should I take? please take into account that I already lift weights at the gym.
Tyrone–it sounds like your goals are perfectly aligned with P90X. It focuses on getting ripped, bulking up, developing strength AND doing cardio. It’s an all-round killer workout, and will really push you hard for three brutal months. However! If you do P90X, doing even MORE weights at your gym becomes not only redundant, but overkill. My advice is just do P90X for a month without doing the extra weights, and see how you feel. If you want to add the weights back in at the end of the month, do so, but I doubt it.
However! You seem pretty intent on continuing to hit the gym. If you’re not willing to give it up, then P90X will be overkill. In that case, my backup advice is to do Insanity. It won’t bulk you up like P90X, but your weight lifting should take care of that. Instead, it will help you get shredded, as you lose the weight and tone up. I’m willing to be that doing weights along with Insanity will still prove too much–it’s the most extreme workout ever put on DVD–but at least you won’t be double stacking on the weight lifting.
So there you have it, Tyrone! I urge you to try P90X by itself for a month–you’ll be so amped up and pleased with the results, I’m confident you’ll go the whole 3 months without ever missing the gym!
i am 50 years old have been walking on treadmill for 30 minutes a day for a while at 45 i began to gain wish me luck weight around my mid section i am looking to lose that weight and tone up i ordered the insanity i am 50 years old 5′ 2″ and weight 129 lbs
Hey there! I just purchased the insanity package, but I have a couple of concerns. One, I work full time, go to school full time, and also own a business. My life is pretty intense which was the reason for why I wanted this workout, to do between. But my job is walking constantly! We estimate about 15 miles a night. The other thing too is my current stature. I’m a runner about three-four times a week, and eat somewhat healthy.
The second thing is energy drinks. I get healthy ones from my business, XS, and they are all vitamin B12, which is great. I take great multivitamins, and have meal replacement bars and also snack bars, which are all designed to be healthy and fortified. Can these be replacements for the meals if I know the calorie intake? They are easier for me to grab on the go too…Meals don’t get cooked very much around my house!
The final thing is sleep. As you can guess, with all of that, I get off of work around 1am, I get to sleep around 02-0230 with homework done, and I get up for school at 0630! On a good night I get about 4 hours of sleep! A catnap is possible, but would this still be enough sleep? I’m ex military, so the boot-camp like style doesn’t scare me, but rather motivates me, but I’m just worried that overdoing it could be an issue. Also, would doing the workouts between work and school be better, around 1200?
I’m not a quitter, I just want to make sure that this would be the right thing for me. I don’t do any weight training now, but did within 12 months from this time period. I am 195lbs and 6′2″, 32 soon, according to the iphone app I recently downloaded, I am .04lbs overweight! Please help! I’ve read all the listings on here and you seem very knowledgable and helpful! Either way, I’ve tasted the victory and beauty of being in shape and I’ll continue to do so…I would love to turn it up a notch though!
Virgina–good luck! That’s ambitious and dedicated of you, to take that kind of challenge. Be sure to use good cross training shoes, to work out on a yoga mat, to get lots of sleep, and to do a little bit of a warm up even before the Insanity Warm up. I’d have advised you to do something a little less extreme first, but since you’ve already bought Insanity, I wish you the best of luck, and hope to hear back from you soon!
Hey Nick–wow. Sounds like you are already working at max capacity. 4 hours sleep? Wallking 15 miles/day? Work, school, and own your own business? Dude, that is INTENSE. Honestly, I don’t see how you’re going to fit INSANITY in there without burning out. But! A friend of mine once got through three YEARS of what you’re doing right now, and she said the only thing that kept her going was the exercise, so… maybe there’s a chance it will help?
First off, the sleep issue. This is a very real problem, regardless of whether you do Insanity. You need more. Especially if you’re doing Insanity.
Second, drop the running. Insanity will be all the cardio you need.
Third, it’s ok to supplement your diet with energy drinks, protein bars, etc, but not ok to live mostly off them. You need good, honest, wholesome food as the backbone of your diet. I know you’re pressed for time, but even if you just take a couple of hours each Sunday to cook up a ton of sauteed chicken to eat with brown rice and veggies during the week in small portions, you’ll be doing better.
This isn’t a question of your being a quitter, but more a question of simply trying to do too much. Give Insanity a shot. Get as much sleep as you can, eat better, and drop the running. And good luck! Honestly, I’m very curious to hear how you’re doing in a couple of week’s time
Hey Phil,
Ive been reading the posts and your responses up above and have come to the conclusion that i need your help/ advice
Im 20, 5′9 and weigh 140. Up until about 8 or 9 months ago i was in superb shape i weighed around 128-130 and was less then 15% body fat. I miss that
and am willing and wanting to do ne thing to get back to where i was if not better. I need something that will challenge me and that will push me to every limit i have. I was interested in insanity or p90x, however i was curious if those are to intense and if i should go a different route. I also would like something that will burn alot of calories considering im italian and have a hard time sticking to meal plans and diets. :)) thank you for your time sorry i wrote a book x(
Can’t wait to hear back from you, thanks again
-Ally
Hey Ally, glad to help. But first, tell me a little bit more about what your activity level has been these past 9 months. Have you done any exercise at all recently, or just been crashing on the couch? That kind of info will let me know what sort of advice to give you
Thank you for the quick response sorry mine wasnt as fast as yours.
Ive been doing alittle bit of both i at times, s for maybe a week will just workout non stop 3 times a day and at any chance i get and then the next week ill be a complete couch potato. I am pretty active during the day though especially at work since i have to be on my feet at all times. So i suppose im right in between. Sorry im not sure how to be specific but i hope that helps :))
Thanks again -Ally :)))
Ally–Ok, I think I see where you’re at. Strong desire, not so strong execution
My advice? Put Insanity in your sights, but first do the Brazil Butt Lift workout. It’s tough, it’s fun, and it’ll whip you into shape so that you’re ready to go extreme in three months with Insanity. The BBL trainer is the guy who helped various Victoria Secret models get ready for the runway, so he clearly knows what he’s doing, and his goal was to help tone and shape rather than bulk up. The other reason I recommend the BBL is because it’s fun–Leandro Carvalho mixes in samba, capoeira, traditional cardio and another brazilian dance style called ‘axe’ (ah-sheh). That should help you commit to it, and not go back to the couch after a couple of weeks. Then? In three months time? You’ll be lean and dangerous, and ready to tear Insanity apart!
Good luck, and let me know how it goes!
Hi Phil,
I recently got a hold of the Insanity DVDs (also have the p90x as well but trying to get more lean than anything) and after reading your posts, I’m trying to figure out how to integrate getting lean with Insanity, but also training for a half marathon. I noticed that you’ve suggested to other people that they should drop running, but I want to use Insanity more so for the weight loss and cross training benefit to supplement my running? Not sure how that works. I’m currently running approximately between 12-16 miles per week over 3 days and building up my milage as the weeks progress. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
- Steph
Steph–the answer is simple. If your focus is running, and you’re using Insanity is a tool, then simply do fewer Insanity workouts/week. See, the program is geared toward a 60 day, massively intense dedication to only Insanity, which is why I tell people who are trying to complete it in such fashion to drop their side workouts. However, given that your goal is not to finish Insanity but rather to use it to get lean in order to improve your running, structure your week to include a couple of Insanity workouts.
Finding the balance could be tricky, and that’s where you have to listen to your body. Given that you’re running 3/days week, I’d suggest throwing in only 2 Insanity workouts/week at first, giving your body time to adjust and adapt. After a couple of weeks, if you think you want to up the intensity, try 3. Remember: rest is crucial, and that’s why I don’t suggest you workout/run 6 days/week right away. Build up the intensity, listen to your body, and hopefully you’ll get the benefits you need without having to drop your running successes!
Best of luck!
Hey phil
alright so i read about the butt lift i dont really like the sound of it lol its a bit girly sounding to me and i want a full body work out not just a booty one lol I think the reason why i want to try either p90x or insanity so much is the fact that they are both inrtense workouts and will push me to even more then what i think im capable of. Dont think im disreguarding your advice though im still going to look into the butt lift videos and ive shared more with you then i did with my old pt . :)) Thank you again and i will dfntly keep you updated on my choice
Thank you –
Ally :))))
Hey hows it going…I’m about 5′6 and 125…i play basketball and run aot not to much of hitting the gym like that but i really want to have a nice toned cut body…im still a little confused if insanity is right for me or go with p90x ?? any advice
Ally, no worries on the opinion on BBL! Sounds like you’re determined to go for something intense, tough, and really challenging. In which case, I say go for Insanity. Listen to your body, get tons of sleep and good food, and perhaps the very challenge of it will make you thrive and push through where something less intense would bore you and make you quit. Sounds like you’ve got a stubborn, tenacious mentality to conquer obstacles, so Insanity could be just the thing for you
Christian, if it’s toned and cut you want, then Insanity is definitely the way to go
Good luck!
I have read all the posts, and heard great things about both programs, but mostly about P90X. I do zumba 5x a week, and burn an average of 500-600cals. each class, so my cardio is great, my HR gets up there w/ each class as well, so I have the cardio side of my workout covered. I do lift weghts 3-4x a week, but need to “kick it up” a notch or 2. So my question is; which program would be best for me? I’m thinking P90X!
haha you read me prty well, stubborn and tenacious are perfect words for me :)) and i think im going to try it however i must admit im a bit nervous but at the same time soooo pumped and excited for the challenges it will bring. I just hope my body doesnt give out on me before my mind/ determination does :)) btw its so weird to have a conversation with someone on here and not really be able to see who youre speaking with but i suppose thats what facebooks/ myspaces are for
have a spectacular day and i cant wait to let ya know how it goes :)))
thanks again- ally
Thanks for your reply Phil!
Yeah, it’s been tough, I was supposed to get up at 0500 for INSANITY today, but went to bed at 0230 studying and just didn’t make it. I’ve been starting to have doubts for now that it may be a good thing. Sometimes being healthy is just knowing when to say no, and I’m starting to wonder if now might be a good time!
As far as the sleep thing goes, I make it up later in the week and weekend, so it’s not too bad, just the first four nights. But I would miss my running, to be honest, I really enjoy it, and although at times I don’t push hard, dig deeper if you will, I do still get an honest attempt at working out. My job is part of the deal, we are traveling concierges on a .5 mile outdoor mall, so that just comes naturally…and the walking burns a lot! I know this as I have toned up just from doing this job, as opposed to working a desk job last year which required about 1.5 hours a day at 24 hour fitness.
I hope this provides insight. I got a return code just in case. But sometimes you just have to know when to fold em, as the song goes. I’m having a hard time seeing this as anything but “giving up”,which is partially military mentality and also my own pride, but yet at the same time, I’ve got a full plate, and it was easier 10 years ago than it is today. I am trying to eat better meals, the meal replacement happens more between school and work and between going to school than anything. WE would all LOVE to have time to cook a hearty breakfast, you know?
I guess you acknowledging that makes sense, maybe this would be more something for down the road…I still plan on running, and if I incorporate some trunk exercises, though I may not have the best body of my life, I’m sure it will be the best so far! At almost 32, it’s amazing how much I’ve retained…in shape and athleticism…but then again, I was always a fast metabolism…
Hey Phil,
I ordered Insanity and started it last week. I love it! I work out after my first class and right before my second class. It is just enough time to get in that good workout but then stay on the move when I finish.
I’m in college, and during the first two years, we have to stick to the school’s meal plan. There aren’t many options with food, and I’m very frustrated with the lack of healthy choices. It’s also difficult to eat healthy when there is other unhealthy food just GLARING at you… Do you have any advice? I’ve wanted to eat healthy all my life, and the biggest obstacle for me has just been not being able to!
Nick,
I agree completely. You need to first and foremost listen to your body–pushing too hard will just mess you up. Get your sleep, eat well, make sure you’re doing ok, and your energy levels are as high as possible. Insanity will always be there waiting for you when you have the time for it!
Brennan, i totally hear you on the difficulty of eating well. I think it’s actually the hardest challenge of the Insanity workout. My advice is as follows: buy some quality protein powder and bars. They should definitely not replace your main meals, but being able to make a quick shake in your bedroom (here’s a good recipe: 1/2 cup of protein powder, frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup of oatmeal, spoon of coconut oil, some ground flaxseed, 2% or almond milk) or grab a protein bar while on the run is invaluable. Another thing you can do is buy a large tub of peanut butter, bananas and some whole wheat bread for the occasional sandwich, or bring some tupperware into the cafeteria and sneak the best quality food into them for later. Are you allowed to have a hotplate in your room? A mini-fridge? A blender? I know these can be huge investments when you’re in college and money is tight, but you can pick them up on Craig’s List with a little luck for cheap. Then stock up on some quality food by getting to the supermarket once a week, and try to depend as little as possible on your cafeteria food.
It’s a tough spot you’re in. What you need to do is plan for each week as if it were a siege, and count on making enough food each Sunday night to last you through Friday, or what have you, because nobody has time to cook every night. Load up on fruit, drink tons of water, and try to be as selective as you can when in the cafeteria. Good luck! Let me know what you decide to do, and remember: health is a life long commitment, and eating is the key part of it. The habits you create now will last you for the next seventy years!
Hi,
I’m 5′9 and recently found out that in about two years I’ve gone from about 145lbs to 160lbs. Since i’m kinda tall I carry it well so I don’t mind the weight. Unfortunately it has left my stomach a pretty flabby. I’m not interested in shedding lots of pounds. I just want to tone up and lose the gut hopefully by July. So what’s the verdict P90X or Insanity?
Hi Toni–Good idea to start getting active again. If you haven’t worked out over the last two years, then you’ll probably want to start with something less intense, but if I had to suggest a program given your goals, I’d go for P90X. Best of luck!
Hi again!
Thanks for the advice, Phil. We are allowed to have basically whatever we want in our room, so it shouldn’t be incredibly difficult. Basically I’ve eaten selectively since High School, but I just never had a program to follow. I don’t really drink anything except OJ, water, milk, or the occasional Apple Juice either, so I’m not making a huge change. I just needed some advice, and this is exactly what I was looking for.
I’ll let you know how I worked it all out in the next couple weeks!
Rooting for you, Brennan! If you can pull of healthy eating in your challenging environment, then it’ll be proof that determination can overcome even the roughest of situations. Looking forward to hearing back from you!
Hi - all the info on Insanity has been great and I’m psyched about getting started. My concern is that I am 57 years old (young). I have been athletic all my life and have done ultra runs, bike riding, triathalons, etc. until a car crash almost killed me. I am now cleared for working out and want to know that my age is not something to be concerned with - I’m 5′11′” and weigh 132lbs. What do you think???
Mary M–There’s only one, simple answer I can give you. While health and fitness have no age, and I absolutely love and respect your decision to get back into shape, I can only tell you to talk about INSANITY with your doctor and get their opinion. I can’t in good faith given your accident and age recommend such and extreme program without knowing that your physician is 100% behind it first, so–talk to them, get their approval, and then come back and let me know! Best of luck, and I hope to hear from you soon!
Don’t listen to these idiots, who hasn’t done none of these programs, I’ve finished insanity and I’m going to finish the P90X. Don’t do INSANITY I wasted two months of my life. Go straight for P90X you’ll see insane result.
Hi Phil -yes, I talked with my doctor at great length about going with “Insanity” and she has given me the green light….I’ll let you know how it goes - hopefully, with great news! Thanks so much, Mary
I don’t even work and do P90x and Insanity all day long every day a week. I’m getting great results. I try to take an hour break in between the workouts… I know it’s crazy but it is well worth it… I look incredible…
Phil,
I have the P90X workouts and really have liked them. Everyonoe is impressed with my arms and abs. I am a mom of a 1 and 3 yr old and have recently lost 35 lbs through weight watchers. I carry my weight in my thighs. I want to lean out more and get rid of this pesky fat on my legs (I went from a size 16 to an
but I still feel I need to lean out more. I do not feel P90X has enough cardio for me. I am trying to decide between Chalene and Insanity. What is your thought?
Hi!
Even after having my son 6 years ago, I maintained a size 3, 118 lb figure, so it’s a little depressing so see it change now and not know what to do about it. I actually eat pretty well, under the 1800 calorie range recommended for my body type. Unfortunately, I have some joint problems (experienced stress fractures in basic training that never healed properly and got discharged). But I really want to get back in shape. Do you think the P90X or insanity workout could be right for me? I used to love working out, and I’m afraid that if I don’t do something about it now it will only be that much harder as I get older. I would really like to get back to what I consider to be my true shape (i.e. drop 15-20 lbs and just be more fit overall) Please help…I don’t want to be one of those moms who doesn’t have the energy to play sports outside with my child!
Hopefully you can help me out…I am 24 years old. I was very upset recently to have to go shopping for a new pant size- I am 5′4″, 135lbs and just graduated to a size 7
My name is Crystal i’m 23 years old. In high school I was active and worked several jobs. After I school I went to college and later joined the military. For a while I was in good shape. As time passed I slacked up on working out. Due a accident in Nov 09 with minor injuries I stopped working out and then started again in Dec. Since the end of Dec I’ve stopped working out again and have gained about 20lbs. I want to lose some weight, flatten my tummy, and tone up everything else. What should I do?
Oh yeah. I’m 23 years old, 5′ 4 and weigh about 170. Curvey, pretty much even proportioned.
I’m trying to decide between P90X and Insanity. I’m a 40 y/o female with about 40-50 pounds to lose. I’ve been doing hardcore MMA Kickboxing for 5 months. I love it, but am not getting the physical changes and weight loss that I’m after. We do lots of bag work, kicking, lunges, squats, etc. as well as some sparring and all sorts of misc. exercises.
I’m leaning toward P90X - but want to be sure I’m making the best choice in addition to the Kickboxing?
Any thoughts? Also, how quickly can you SERIOUSLY see some bigtime changes and weight loss? Thanks.
I just posted above and forgot to mention that I do have to be somewhat careful of my hips. I’ve had both hip joints completely reconstructed and have 4 screws in each side. I’m not supposed to Run or do too much joint jarring, high intensity weight bearing stuff that could redamage the joints. I did get my Dr’s blessing for the kickboxing (as long as I modify my kids……I keep them below waist level), but will never be able to do a lot of running, etc. So, I should probably keep that in mind when picking between the two programs. Thanks.
Hey phil,
I am a college student and work out 4 to 5 days a week lifting weights and doing a little bit of cardio i am 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. I am looking for the right summer workout to really push me over the edge and give me that cut ripped look with a 6 pack. I can’t decide which would be the better option p90x or insanity. I am worried p90x is more of a complete body transformation and i will be discouraged when i don’t see dramatic results. My concern about insanity is that it will make me to lean and won’t provide any muscle mass increase. Any advice?
Hi!
My sister and I are trying to find a workout program to use together. I was a serious athlete until the age of 14 (mostly basketball, tennis, and soccer), and I also started dance on top of that when I was 12. When I hit high school, I mostly cut out the sports, though I had dance for six hours or so on Saturdays, and a half hour of either dance or fencing each day school was in session as my gym class. After graduating, my routine dropped dramatically.
I’m 23 now, and though I still do 6 hours of dance on Saturdays, I only work out another 2 hours during the week. My main issue is definitely eating. I’m 5′8″, but 203 lbs! I saw Insanity and definitely wanted to try it. I have no issues with working hard for results (I refuse to be another burnout story), but this would be the first workout program/diet system I have ever tried.
My main goal isn’t really a number (though I’m thinking maybe about 137?). I want to look like the dancer I am, hopefully before my recital in June; nice and toned with a strong core, but a flatter stomach as soon as possible will be great! Which program should I use? What about my sister, who is 165 lbs, 5′11″, and barely works out since she’s away at college, and far from dance school?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Marcy, first off, congrats on the success with P90X! Though you still have some areas you want to improve, the fact that you’re getting results and compliments shows that you have the right blend of determination and athletic prowess. As for the best program to burn that fat off your legs–I’d have to recommend Insanity. Chalene Extreme is a fantastic program, but is more like P90X, while Insanity will have you burning through the calories like nobody’s business. I really think you’ll love and thrive on the Insanity program, but please come back to let me know what you decide, and how it goes! Best of luck
Shan, I love your commitment to not only your health, but your kids. You’re absolutely right–now is the time to get back in the saddle and start focusing on your fitness and energy levels. I’m sorry to hear that you’re not happy with where you’re currently at, but you should use this current level of dissatisfaction to fuel your desire to get back in shape! My advice is to start with something a little bit more low-impact than Insanity or P90X, because those stress fractures sound like they could flare up and stop you in your tracks if you went too extreme too soon. My advice? Take a look at the Brazil Butt Lift program. It’s fun, was designed by the guy who trained Victoria Secret models, and involves a great combination of dance and cardio. You can think of it as a prelude to the more extreme programs, a way to get back into shape before you take it to the next level. Take a look at BBL, let me know what you think, and if you’re not satisfied we’ll brainstorm a little further. Either way, the best of luck!
Crystal: I’m glad to hear that you’re focused on getting back into shape. Nothing can be harder that taking that first step, and it sounds like you’re committed. So kudos! Given your goals and current status, I’d recommend the Brazil Butt Lift. It’s not as intense as some of the more extreme programs, but was designed to give Victoria Secret models the kind of results that would allow them to strut their stuff on the runway without any fear of the cameras. It’s selling like hot cakes, people love it, and we’ve heard great reports as to the results. Take a look–it’s a fun blend of samba, capoeira, ballet and cardio, and will help you take that first step with a huge smile on your face! Let me know what you decide to do
Shannon: I’ve put some thought into your situation, and have decided that your best bet is P90X. Your background in hardcore MMA kickboxing tells me that you’re ready for an extreme workout, but your hip condition rules out Insanity due to the high level of jumping and cardio. P90X is a mixture of resistance training, kempo, yoga and cardio, and I think you’ll be able to thrive in that regimen, modifying what you need to accommodate your hips, while still getting some extreme results.
Now, as to your question about how long till you see SERIOUS results: that all depends. Don’t you hate that kind of answer? But here’s why I’m saying it: it all depends on more than just your exercise. Nutrition is KEY. 5 months of hardcore MMA kickboxing should have already given you results, including weight loss. So–since I don’t know what your current nutrition levels are, I urge you to follow the P90X nutrition guideline scrupulously. Take care of your hips, get extreme, and eat right, and I’m positive you’ll be pleased with your results, which–if you do everything right–you should be able to begin seeing by day 45
Best of luck, Shannon! Let me know how it goes, and I hope to hear back from you soon!
Heya Chris,
If you’re within the 18-22 age range, you’ll get results if you do either of those programs right. Since you’re already lifting 4-5 days/week and doing a little cardio, you’re clearly in already good shape, so an extreme program will tip you right over the edge and get you into fantastic shape. I’m not sure which program to advise for you, however, so will need for you to answer a couple more questions before I can give you a definitive answer. You say that you want a cut, ripped look that will show your 6 pack, and that is purely a question of lowering your body fat. Insanity is perfect for that, and if your weight lifting has already given you enough mass, cutting down your body fat with Insanity could be the way to go. However, if you’re looking to build more mass first while also cutting to a lesser degree, than P90X is your option. It all depends on where you’re at right now–do you know your current body fat percentage? Are you satisfied with the amount of lean muscle mass on your frame?
Finally, don’t be afraid of not getting extreme results with P90X. It will definitely give them to you IF you not only do the workouts but also follow the nutritional guidelines. How good are you with your current diet (not weight loss plan, but simply what you eat). Do you get enough quality calories? Do you take protein supplements? Do you eat only healthy stuff, or are you indulging in soft drinks, pizzas, etc?
Let me know a little bit more about your diet, current muscle mass/body fat percentage and be a little bit more specific with your goals, and I’ll tell you what I think you should do
Hi Tulani!
I love that you and your sister are determined to work out together. Awesome! This way you’ll both keep each other on track. Given your dance/basketball background, I think Insanity is definitely for you. Usually I’m hesitant about recommending it to people who haven’t worked out recently, but your muscle memory will kick in and I think your joints are probably sufficiently tough from all that dancing to let you hang in here. Word of warning: given your current weight, Insanity will be REALLY tough. However, if you hang in there, you’ll get dramatic results. Your sister might be in worse shape, however, given her lack of conditioning, but if you guys work through it together, and keep each other motivated, I think you’ll do great.
Now. None of this will have ANY effect if you don’t get your eating under control. Seriously. You could do Insanity every day for two months and do little more than get tired if you don’t change your diet. Insanity comes with a nutritional guideline–if you decide to do this, MAKE THAT YOUR BIBLE. No joke, diet is more important than the exercises themselves. Tulani, take this seriously–you won’t get results if you don’t eat right. If you decide to be serious about this, than quit eating unhealthy stuff, and you’ll see that fat melt right off.
So! Best of luck to you both, I’m excited for you, and really hope you come back to let me know how it goes. Best of luck to your and your sister!
Thanks Phil,
I think I will order Insanity today and I can always combine the P90X to keep up with my ripped arms if I feel I am not lifting enough. I love to be dripping in sweat after a workout and I am hoping Insanity is going to deliver. I keep doing Plyometrics and Core Synergistics over and over and want to mix up my high intensity workouts.
Excellent! Marcy, I just finished doing a round of Insanity’s Power & Resistance workout, and trust me, I am dripping sweat. Not only that, but all the V-push ups and Tricep Ball push ups and travelling push ups and the rest mean that my arms and chest are burning. So don’t worry about losing those ripped arms, if anything, they’ll only get more toned! Please come back in a couple of weeks and let me know what you think of the Insanity workout–I’m very interested in hearing your thoughts and learning about your progress!
Hi Phil! I’m turning 50 tomorrow and have been serious about getting back into shape. what do you recommend. I amd 5″4″ and 150 lbs. I have worked out most of my life, did some body building in my late 20’s and loved the way I looked and felt. But work kinda took over my life and have just kept up the cardio and a bit of weight training. I broke my ankle a few years ago and haven’t been able to get back into it until now. I have been cleared by my Dr. I would like to lose about 30 lbs and get fit again. What do you recommend for me? I would prefer seeing results for my class reunion in 3 monthss. Please help!! thanks!
Phil,
I’m a very athletic guy. I’m right at 6′3 and have always been a solid 230-235. Ive slacked on going to the gym and eating the healthy foods ive needed. I have packed on about 40lbs. I’m gettin married in October and Im tryint to shed some weight. Ive got a good 6 months to go before the BIG DAY. I’m really not wanting to bulk up cause im already big build guy. Im just lookin to shed the weight. Is insanity a good route to go? I know you really have to be dedicated to do the insanity workout, and i am dedicated and ready to burn the fat off!! I just get bored soimetimes going to the gym and run run run on the treadmill, eliptical, etc. im ready for a new challenge. Is the insanity nutrition plan a big help also? let me know what you think or if anyone else has any input let me know. Thanks!
Hey Mick–now is definitely the time to get back in shape! What you’ve got working for you is a serious amount of muscle memory, and a knowledge of what it means to push yourself and work hard for your goals. Also, 3 months is the perfect amount of time in which to lose weight–you may not become the adonis you were in your late 20’s, but you’ll definitely be able to get back into good shape!
Now, because of the amount of time you’ve been away from fitness, I’d recommend you take a good look at Power 90. It’s a 3 month program designed by Tony Horton, the guy who created P90X, and it’s the program that put him on the map. While it may look a little dated (it was filmed when Beachbody was a young company, and didn’t have the same production values as it does now), the content is still spot on, and will give you incredible results. Think of it as a warm-up for the real P90X–you use resistance training and a host of other techniques to get back into shape. So scope it out, and then come back here and let me know if you have any questions, and best of luck!
Hi David,
6 months is the perfect amount of time for you to really whip yourself into shape. My advice? Break that time into two 3 month segments, allowing you to do 2 full Beachbody programs. Clearly your goal should be Insanity, however: I’m worried that at your weight and size (you’re clearly a big man!), all that Insanity plyo, cardio and calisthenics will be rough on your joints. Note: this is not a judgement on your willpower or determination–with your wedding come up, I know you’ve got plenty of that to spare. Rather, this is a question about being wise with the time you have remaining. I think the odds of your hurting your joints or burning out if you leap into Insanity are dangerously high, given that it’s an extreme workout designed for people who are already in excellent athletic condition.
Does this mean I don’t think you should aim for it? Not at all! Make Insanity your workout for the last 2 months before the wedding. But during the first three months, I would toughen up your body, lose some initial weight and get prepped for Insanity by doing a program like either Power 90 or Rev Abs. Both of these are tough, but are more accessible for people who are getting back into the swing of things, and both come with nutrition guides that are KEY to achieving success.
Let me emphasize that point. Nutrition is perhaps even more important to your success than the actual workouts. Therefor take these nutrition guides seriously–they’re put together by experts who have studied the workouts.
So, in short, my advice is to do either Power 90 or RevAbs for April, May, and June, and then destroy Insanity in the remaining time and show up for your wedding looking like a shredded machine
Good luck, and let me know what you decide!
Hi Phil. I am 17, 5″11 and about 160-165lbs. I am pretty skinny upper body and want to gain some muscle, but am not in the best shape. I just want a stronger upper body, because my legs are pretty strong. I dont regularly work out, but i am still fairly active. Should i do insanity or p90x? Thanks!
Hey Phil….
I’m a little torn between the two even after doing quite a bit of research on each. So I guess I’m looking for an outside opinion. I’ve read many many of the posts and can see the pros and cons of each recommendation, so here is my status:
28yrs old, VERY active with sports including ice hockey, volleyball, and racquetball. I know it’s a challenge with either program but I’ll dive in 100% on either one. I’ve never tried a workout video, but maybe its my hidden secret. My diet is poor and I know that’s a #1 factor I need to change. 6’2”, 260 lbs. From the waist down, i love the way i look. From my waist to my neck is pathetic. Especially my stomach and handle area. I’m looking to get tone for sure, and any muscle added is absolute bonus. Basically…. I need to get my lard arse in shape. Whats your recommendation? P90… or Insanity?
~Bill~
Phil…I’m back…
That little voice in my head just kept going…and the box sitting in the corner pissed me off. I mean, it’s exactly what happens to people as they get in their 30’s just planning, but not doing, ordering and then refunding…NOPE…Not going to be me!
So I started my fit test on Monday…needless to say I spent the next day in soreness…which was verified by a fitness place near my work to be normal, tight muscles. Today I reluctantly went into Day Two…and though it hurt, I stopped alot, and didn’t have the strength to do some of the exercises, I feel good! And I’ve been taking Double X, Glucosamine, Rhodiola, Concentrated fruits and vegetables, and Omega 3’s for over a week now, so I have the energy, and I have good cookies and protein shakes for recovery.
I’m not dancing away from this, but I can tell you that I feel great. I remember what Naval boot camp was like, and then I was in PT with Marines for the entire 5 year enlistment. I know about pain being weakness leaving the body, but man, there’s a lot of weakness in there. But when the time is up, you’re COVERED in sweat, unlike when I run…and you feel tired, but happy, it’s so worth it…that’s just to anyone else who’s reading this and pondering it…My schedule is loaded, and that is all the reason to add some real good exercise in it…
Thanks for all the good words and encouragement, as well as the wisdom. As my health has always been more important to me than anything, and the rent isn’t paid with sweat, I dropped a class this week to have more time to recoop and sleep in. This will prove to be beneficial in my mood as well as my strength and energy. Three words people…GO FOR IT…I am not in bad shape, and this exercise program hurts…which is good. Don’t be afraid of pain, but be VERY afraid for the pain of regret…You only get one! Sorry to rant…I just got done with Plyo and I’m pumped!
Tom, you’re in an enviable place to be. At 17, your body is chock full of growth hormones, which makes gaining muscle the easiest it will ever be in your life. Given your goal to put on some weight and develop a strong upper body, I recommend you go for P90X. Remember: the nutrition is KEY. You won’t make the kind of crazy gains you’re capable of if you don’t take the eating part of the plan as seriously–if not MORE seriously–than the workouts themselves. Best of luck, and let us know how it goes!
Hey Bill,
You’re in an interesting situation, since I could honestly see you doing either workout and getting good results. However, if I had to recommend one workout to do first, it would be Insanity. Given your focus on burning off flab and toning up, Insanity is the way to go. You’ll be burning a crazy amount of calories, and in two months you’ll have made a huge dent on that weight you want to lose. THEN I recommend you hit P90X like a madman, and take that toned, slimmed down body to the next level by layering on some solid muscle and further completing your body transformation.
Normally I don’t recommend for people to go into such an intense series of workouts, but given your background and developed athletic ability I think you can handle it. However: I don’t think you should try to maintain your current regimen of volleyball, raquetball etc while attempting Insanity. Dedicate the first couple of weeks to just the Insanity workout, and if by the beginning of week 3 you think you have extra oomph to return to your other sports, than do so. Otherwise, just focus on hanging in there. And you’re absolutely 100% correct: your nutrition plan/lack of one will make or break your ability to succeed at this. More than the workouts, focus on your eating! You won’t get nearly the kind of results if you don’t.
So: best of luck, let me know what you decide, and come back often to keep us up to date on your progress!
Nick! Great to hear from you. First off, congrats on getting underway! That can be the hardest step of all, and as you said, all the planning and promising and tough thoughts amount to nothing if you never actually press play. Trust me, it will get harder before it gets easier, but you’ve got the right attitude: stop, take breaks, catch your breath, and always remember that this isn’t a competition, but rather a means of getting into better shape. So don’t fixate on what the Insanity Crew are accomplishing on the screen (though let them inspire you), but rather listen to your body, push through those aches and feelings that you can’t, and hang in there!
I’m going through a round of Insanity right now, and I know exactly what you mean about the sweat, the aches, the pain, the fatigue. Sleep and nutrition is key, and I’m glad to hear you’re taking this seriously enough to take a class off in order to recover better. Nothing is more important than your health, and if you stick with this and make this your lifestyle, you will be so grateful five years down the road, fifteen, thirty years from now!
Hang in there, amigo. I know you’ve got the mental toughness and tenacity to see this through. I definitely want you to keep coming back and letting us all know how you’re doing–literally thousands of people read this blog post/comment thread every month, and stories like yours are an inspiration to everybody that they can accomplish anything if they just firm their resolve and go! Come back often to give us further updates, and good luck!
I run, but I want to build more muscle and definition. I also feel like I have hit kind of a physical plateau, so I was thinking about trying . I worry, though, that it will make me too tired to run. I run about 9 miles a day and would hate to give that up. Do you think I can keep both up and have them be effective or would I really need to scale back on running?
I’m also interested in the nutrition part of the program (I’ve gotten way too sloppy about my eating habits), but I’m vegetarian, close to vegan (don’t eat fish, don’t care for eggs, dairy is okay). Does it include vegetarian options? Thanks!!
Yikes! Bad typo! I meant to say I was thinking of trying Insanity, as I don’t have the equipment for P90x. Sorry about that.
Skippy: Hate to say it, but I don’t think you can do Insanity AND run 9 miles at the same time. Insanity is slated as the most brutal workout on DVD for a reason, and takes two straight months to finish, 6 days/week. It’s an exhausting, numbingly hard effort, and I think you’ll simply burn yourself out or injure yourself if you keep running while doing it.
Perhaps you could think of it this way: sometimes it can be really good for you to cross train so as to improve your ability in your chosen sport. You could either opt to do the full two months of Insanity straight, and know that it would improve you in different ways than running ever could, and then take your ramped up cardio engine and get it back into running condition once you’ve broken through your plateaus and such, OR you could modify the Insanity workout to your own needs. Do, say, two Insanity workouts/week instead of six, and run 3 times/week instead of your usual 7. A mix could be really good for you, on the cross training level and helping you break those plateaus.
Unfortunately, the Insanity Nutrition guide is not designed for vegetarians. It’s more challenging your way, but it can definitely be done! Best of luck, and let me know what you end up deciding to do!
Hey i have both insanity and P90x i want to do insanity first to lose some fat then do P90x to build up some muscle i tried insanity got 12 days done then i stopped it not becuse it was hard but i lost my motivation i am in ok shape but need to commit to it its hard but how to stay motivated is my question
only doing it for 12 days i lost 9 pounds so thats good
Thanks for the advice–I really like the idea of mixing up some running days with Insanity days (though one could argue that I have enough insanity days in my life already). I’ll try that out and we’ll see how it goes….!
Heya Tyler,
When it comes to motivation, getting support from family and friends can be key. Tell people about your decision, and make your commitment public. I wrote about other ways to keep yourself motivated here. It’s an article geared for the Brazil Butt Lift, but can be applied to any workout. Take a look, and I hope it helps!
I am doing p90x right now and i wanted a harder cardio workout so i am doing insanity on p90x cardio days. Can you tell me which Insanity cardios i should be doing ?
I just finished Chalean Extreme 2-3 weeks ago and was doing pilates training along with that. I’m still doing pilates. Just ordered both P90X and Insantiy. Not sure what to do first. My first instinct is to do Insanity 1st. What do you think.
Hey Phil thanks man i will keep it up! Shaun t is motivating and i will keep doing the crazy intense cardio workouts and i will do p90x after Insanity great article i will not have an excuses so Dig Deep
and Bring it!
Wow Debbie, you must be in fantastic shape! Congrats on finishing Chalean Extreme–what are your thoughts on that workout? I’d advise a change of pace, and go for Insanity. Chalean Extreme has more in common with P90X than Shaun T’s program, and I think you’ll enjoy the new challenges of an intense, cardio workout
Hey Brian,
Some good cardio workouts from Insanity that won’t involve much calisthenics so as to avoid duplicating P90X resistance training would be Pure Cardio and Plyo Cardio Circuit. Good luck!
Thanks for the advice Phil. That’s exactly what I was thinking in that I need to change it up a bit for awhile and do an intense cardio session. Chalean was awesome really liked the program. Not sure if I’m in “excellent” shape but getting there. Definetely need to concentrate on the nutrition side of things and could use some work in the stomoch thigh area so I hope Insanity helps with that. Also just ordered the Brazilian Butt Lift too. Might do that routine after Insanity or possibly mix in with Insanity after the 1st couple weeks. Thoughts on that?
Debbie,
There’s no real right answer when it comes to how you approach your workouts. My advice? Try Insanity for a couple of weeks, and then just check in with your body, and your mind. If you’re pumped, loving it and feeling great, than I would say keep on plowing ahead with Insanity. If however you’re looking for a little more variety? Start working in the Brazil Butt Lift. BBL is an excellent program, and we’re selling copies like there’s no tomorrow and getting back fantastic reviews, so you’ll no doubt love the blend of dance, cardio and capoeira. Come and check back in here in a couple of week’s time, let me know how Insanity is treating you, and then we can brainstorm as to your next step!
Thank you so much for your advice! I was hoping to do Insanity, and though i unfortunately won’t be able to buy it till the end of the month, I can’t wait! I’ll definitely be able to change my diet, though. I’ve already decided to eat better while I’m waiting for Insanity to show up. I’ll keep in contact with my progress!
Ok will do.
Hey…I lost about 45 pounds on my own and then bought P90X to tone up after the weight loss. It was a painful 2 weeks at first but now I am pretty much done my 90 days of the Lean Program. I didn`t lose much on it, about 10 pounds, but I definately toned up. I need to lose another 40 pounds though and am wondering what would be my best option, I have definately plateaued! Should I just redo P90X? I am 37 year old female, 5`2″and 165 pounds.
Are abdominal belts a waste of money or will Insanity trim me down enough to see my abs?
Hi, I’m considering buying the insanity workout and to give you an idea of my fitness, I’m 5′2 and 130 pounds. I play a lot of basketball, run and weigth train. I’m seeing a lot of comments about how in shape you have to be to do the Insanity workout. Am I ready? and can you give me an idea of how in shape you have to be ready for the Insanity workout.
Also, I’m 17
Best of luck, Tulani! Work hard on that nutrition–it’s the most important part of your new commitment! No soda’s, pizzas, fast food, basically try to cut out all processed food. If your great grandma wouldn’t have seen it on her dinner table, don’t eat it!
Sof,
First off, congrats on all your successes! What an amazing journey you’ve been on! To lost 45lbs and then get through P90X is incredible. Well done! However, at this point I would not recommend you do P90X all over again, but rather jump into Insanity. It will help you achieve your goals, and most importantly, break through your plateaus! Take a look, best of luck, and let us know what you decide to go with!
Hi Tyler,
Yes, abdominal belts are a complete waste of money. Don’t even bother. As for whether Insanity will help you reveal your abs–that all depends on how much weight you need to lose. It’s an extreme two month workout, but some people, especially if they’re obese, need years to shed all that weight. So yes, Insanity is the way to go if you want to move in that direction, but will it give you those specific results? All depends on where you are right now.
Jeanna,
If you run, play basketball and weight train, then you probably have a sufficient athletic base to give Insanity a shot. You’re young, in good shape, and thus I think qualified to give it a go. And remember! There’s a 30 day, no questions asked return policy. So if you think it’s too much, just send it back and get your refund
Best of luck, and let me know how it goes!
Any thoughts of any good deals on all the equipment needed for p90x? I would love to get the bowflex adjustable dumbells but those are a little pricey.
Thanks!
Hey Phil,
I’m 17, 5′7″, 140 lbs and a girl. I have weight training so im staying in shape for the most part. It’s been about a month since basketball has ended, so I’m not in that kind of shape anymore sadly. I have a big bone structure so I have more muscle than fat, but my fat is definatly flabby. I’m afraid to spend all that money on INSANITY and then burn out. We do P90X sometimes in class but not consistantly. I would like to tone up majorly and I’d like to get in shape without having to run miles everyday. So P90X, INSANITY, or BRAZIL BUTT LIFT??
Thanks!!
hey im not obese or even fat just want to get toned and ive been on insanity for a week now and already am seeing results lost some weight feel stonger and wanna keep going
Hey Phil, its Steven and I just want to say that I cant wait to start p90x! My start date is on March 29th (Monday). At the moment I am 180 lbs (last time I checked) at 5″6″ at 17 years old. The thing is that I’m kinda more muscle than fat! lol. My max bench is about 185lbs. I plan to do the doubles right off the bat. I will be doing varsity football next year and so many people are so much stronger than me. I believe this program will help me out tremendously. I plan to comply to the diet completely and thoroughly. However I have a Question. So right now I’m doing JV lacrosse and yea I think I might be overworking out when I start? Because when school finishes, practice starts at 3:30 - 6ish or 7ish. so right after practice, I do p90x workout of the day and make sure I drink the recovery drink and eat dinner after working out (complying to the diet)? what do you suggest? should I just do the classic? Because My main goal is to be healthy, lost the baby fat, and gain straight up muscle.
P.S.- my goal as of now is to be strong and in shape for football, however afterward I plan on leaving football for a loonngg time and start doing muay thai, BJJ and a lot of mma (starts in winter)so should I also get Insanity?
Hi Kayla,
I think you’re in a great place to really step up your fitness level. At 17, your body is at it’s prime, and will adapt to any workout you do with quicker speed and greater results than you might ever see. So! Why not start things off with Brazil Butt Lift? It’s by the trainer of the Victoria Secret models, won’t burn you out (the dancing and music is really fun), and will get you primed for a more extreme workout like Insanity and P90X when you’re done. I think you’ll love it, and if it gives supermodels the kind of results they need for the runway, clearly it’s doing something right
Also, remember our 30 day no questions asked return policy. Purchase it, take a look, try a few workouts and then let us know what you think!
Steven: First off, it sounds like you’re on a formidable training track, and have excellent long term goals already planned out, which is awesome. That kind of vision and dedication will see you accomplish any of your goals. Now, you’re definitely right in being worried about overtraining: doing three hours of lacrosse and then an hour of P90X is way too much at this point, especially given how intense P90X is. Remember: your body will grow more if you give it room to recover; if you keep pounding it, it will simply stay worn down. So yes, I would recommend you do the classic version instead of the doubles. The classic will accomplish wonders if you combine your current hormone level, a healthy diet, lots of sleep and the straight up workouts. I think in 3 months time, you’re going to be jacked
As for Insanity–definitely plan to cycle into that after P90X. I can’t think of a better workout for martial artists, in that it helps you develop explosive power, the ability to operate at close to threshold max for nearly 40 minutes, strong legs and joints and an incredible cardio engine. Just be sure to not do too much at the same time–the best gauge is to simply check in on your energy levels. If you’re feeling good, then keep at it. But if you’re feeling worn out and run down, then reassess your work load in favor of allowing your body to rebuild the very muscle you’re tearing down.
Best of luck, and let me know how it goes!
hey my name is mike i’m 5′7 and about 205 pounds. i used to be in really good shape playing football, baseball and hockey and constantly running and lifting weights. as i got older i got out of the sports and start to pack on the weight but i’m at the point now where i’m not happy with my self at all. my energy level is really low and i just don’t feel myself. both p90x and insanity are workouts i know i could do b/c i’m ready to push myself but i’m not sure if i should try to lose the weight first and tone up with insanity and then do P90X to build the muscle back up or the other way around..build the muscle and then tone. which road would you suggest for me
Thanks
Hi Mike,
Great decision to get started now. In 3 months time, you’ll look back and think it was one of the best decisions you ever made. My advice? Start with Insanity. It’s brutal, it’s tough, but it’s only 2 months and will whip you into shape, help you slim down and lose that extra weight. Then, when you hit P90X, you’ll be able to build back up from a lean core, and change what’s left of your fat into muscle. Remember: nutrition is key! Make your diet the central focus of your plans, or you won’t get the results you want!
Best of luck, and let me know how it goes!
Phil since you finished p90x and Insanity do you have a six pack abs i now realize doing cardio is the best way to get them but if i t worked for you maybe it will work for me im almost there insanity has trimmed me down alot and im closer to my goal.
Hey Phil, Thanks for the quick response and great advice! I’ll keep you posted. Oh and for the record, you are much better than the beachbody coach that you get when you sign up for teambeachbody.com! lol. Oh and another thing I’m curious as to know if you have any of beachbody’s supplements, bands, shakes, etc? Here’s my complete list of items for my 90 day journey: iron gym extreme pull up bar, p90x protein bars variety pack(4 flavors, 3 of each, 12 in total), a month’s worth of p90x recovery drinks (orange), the p90x peak health formula daily multivitamins, the resistance bands (20 Lb, 30 Lb, 40 Lb dumbbell equivalents), and a dumbbell set of 10 pounds. Right now I plan to buy a mat cheaply and shakeology. Lol by the list you can tell that I’m serious as to getting in better shape!
I am 21 about to be 22, and I am in the worst shape i have ever been in my life. My 20 year old wife is 5 months pregnant and i have been gaining that daddy weight. just 4 years ago when i was 17 and 18 I used to work out day and night 5 times a week, run 3 miles a day, and lift weights for 2 hours every single day; then I was 5′5″ 170lbs
now 4 years later i am 5′5″ 250lbs…..(my wife wont stop feeding me mexican food, lol) but to make a long story short, i gained 20 lbs every year for 4 years…TIME TO PUT A STOP TO THIS!
I know i am not in any shape at all besides round…….but……started Insanity a week ago, kicking my but but i am feeling better than i have in a while and am keeping to the diet and the workouts for sure so far, able to complete about 85% of the workouts. i do it in the morning at 7 or 8 AM and i run 1 mile at 9PM when i get home
lost about 5 pounds already in one week since i am not eating mcdonalds and taco bell for lunch everyday now.
can’t wait to see what i am at in the end
Hey Phil i just started insanity 2 days ago and i was wondering if getting and supplements like creatine would be helpful. If so what kind? Or is a simple protein sufficient? I am 6′ 205lbs right now. I gained 30 pounds in the last year because of bad eating habits. I always have had the bad eating habits but the effects of them were not evident until my basketball career was over. I play 3-4 hours of basketball a week but that is just not enough to lose weight just maintain what i am at. I am fairly strong and i am also concerned with losing what muscle i have with insanity. Will insanity build any muscle or just tone what i have or make me leaner? Thanks for the help, i really enjoyed the article also.
-Rich
I am 6′1″ and weight 235 lbs, 27 years old. I would want to lose around 30 lbs. I am currently hitting the gym, only weight lifting. I currently bench 230 lbs. Ive been at the gym for about 2 months. Only weight lifting. I use to play hockey, football, and boxing. I had a knee injury during boxing approximately 5 yrs ago. All my sporting acitivities stopped after my injury.
Which program, p90x or insanity, would you guys recommend to get back into shape? Lose weight and start to get cut? Which program is more for beginners?
Tyler, the key thing about six pack abs is to realize that the only way to get them to show is to cut down body fat %. You can have abs of steel under a layer of fat and never see them. Insanity and P90X will help you lose that weight, but the key part of this whole program is to follow the diet/nutrition plan scrupulously. If you want to show those abs, you need to watch what you eat, so that your workouts can have the maximum effect! Are you on top of your eating habits?
Hey Steven,
My pleasure! I’m glad that I’m able to give some useful advice here, and give people a bit of an edge when it comes to tackling these often daunting fitness workouts
As for supplements, bands, shakes, etc, you seem to be set! That is an impressive list of items, and you’re right: you are clearly intent on stacking everything in your favor so you can dominate your goals! Make sure you get that mat soon, and invest in the best cross trainer shoes you can afford. I’ve got the full complement also, though I find the protein bars to be too sweet for my taste. Also, how are you doing on the nutrition front? Are you putting as much effort and dedication into eating right as you are working out?
Eric,
Way to go! That is an awesome decision to take, to finally stop sliding down that slippery slope and get a hold of yourself. If you stick to Insanity, if you’re able to not burn out, then you will be right on track to getting back into the best shape of your life–if not better! And congratulations on the baby–what an exciting time for you! My one concern is still the diet. I know you’re no longer eating junk, but are you eating right? You won’t get startling results unless you are really dedicated to clean, wholesome, fresh food. Are you following the Insanity nutrition plan?
Heya Rich,
Some good questions here. Let’s tackle them one by one. Will you lose muscle or just tone what you have? In your case, I think you’ll simply be toning or perhaps even adding muscle. There’s no question that your calves, quads and glutes are going to get bigger. Insanity is all about plyo and cardio, and your lower body will respond. As for the upper body, at the very least you’ll tone. There are a couple of workouts each week that involve a punishing number of pushups, tricep exercises and shoulder presses, and if you really push hard at those, and use your body weight to its best effect, you’ll get an excellent burn. Will you get bulked up like P90X? No; however, coming in from a basketball background, I think you’ll be happy to see great results. I ended up with much bigger, better cut triceps by the end of my Insanity workout, and that was after years in the gym!
Second, as for supplements: that’s a personal choice. You can definitely get awesome results on Insanity if you just eat a ton of wholesome, nutritious food. However, not all of us have time to prepare every meal in the kitchen, which is where supplements come in. Creatine is one of the very, very few supplements that has been shown over the past decade to have consistently excellent effects on exercise, and it does this by increasing your energy supply so that your muscles can push for longer, resulting in harder workouts that stress them more and cause them to rebuild faster (that’s a very simple breakdown!). Thus, if you want to start using creatine, you will definitely get good results from it, but I urge you to do some more research and make sure this is a choice that you are 100% behind. I don’t use it, but that’s because I was brought up with an old-school, get everything you need from food kind of mentality. However, I know tons of people who do, and they love it.
Best of luck with Insanity, and let me know how it goes!
Hi Peter,
Neither program is for beginners–they’re both for advanced, elite athletes. My advice given your old knee injury and your current love of the gym is to hit P90X hard. It has a fantastic mix of resistance training, stretching, cardio, plyo and striking, and I think you’ll dig being able to push your muscles, getting bigger and more ripped as you go. Make sure to lock in on that nutrition plan though–it’s key to being able to lose weight even as you build muscle! Best of luck, and let me know what you decide!
Confused on which one to get. (P90X or Insanity) Brief desciprtion about myself. I am 5 foot 8, 220 lbs. I have been taking cardio kickboxing classes for 6 months and have lost 20 lbs already and am ready to rev it up. Looking to get my body fat around 10% but still hold onto big musclses. (biceps, triceps,) Which one to get. I understand that with Insantiy i will burn it off, but will it take away the muscle definition i am looking for? With P90X I understand that I will be able to get muscles definition but will i get my body fat to where I want it. I like the fact that Insanity is only 90 days to results and it takes P90X 90 days. But here i sit confused and dazed, someone point me in the right direction, i am chopping at the bit to get started
Forgot to mention that I am 38 years old, and have had hernia surgery in the past, dont know if that matter at all. However i do enjoy working out, the feeling you get while you are doing it.
Hey Joseph,
Doesn’t sound like you can make a wrong decision here. I totally understand your indecision, given that both options have their relative pro’s and cons (cons only in that the other program has an edge in certain areas), but I think it comes down to a matter of personal preference in your case. I’d advise you to burn off the fat before putting on the muscle, going the Insanity route and then hitting P90X, since there are enough push ups, tricep work and shoulder work to keep what you have, but if you prefer to focus on body building, then go the P90X route. In the end, you win either way; 2 or 3 months go by fast, and then you can simply alternate and do the other program, ending up with the same amazing results in 5 months time no matter what.
However! Having reread your post, I think from the tone of it that you’d enjoy P90X more at this point. If you follow the nutrition plan carefully and throw yourself into all the plyo and cardio workouts, you’ll lose that fat and not only maintain your muscle mass but increase it. Good luck, and let me know what you decide!
hey, phil. this is Eric again…..and yes i am definately following the insanity diet plan. that is all i eat now. The Same day i got insanity, i opened it up and took the nutrition book to walmart with me and spent like $200 on all the food. And the cool thing about it is that my wife doesn’t work so she devotes her morning to preparing my 5 meals for the day. After I finish my workouts in the morning time she prepares my meals as i get ready for work for the day. Breakfast this morning was an apple, 3 egg whites, and 2 pieces of whole wheat grain toast. Mid morning snack is 1 pancake made out of oatmeal, 3 egg whites, and protein powder. Lunch is boiled chicken breast shredded up with some tomatoe (for taste) and some crackers with berries and protein shake for a drink. late day snack is 1 piece of whole wheat toast with turkey bacon, lettuce, and tomatoe on it. Dinner is salmon with a tiny bit of pasta and veggies. WOW that is super healthy and alot after i typed it all out. I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO DO ALL THIS WITHOUT HER, she makes all this for me. if it was me i woulod be eating cans of tuna and crackers because i can’t cook, haha.
Eric, you are one lucky dog. I would LOVE to have that kind of love and support at home, helping me fight the hardest battle there is! With that kind of help, and eating that hardcore, you are going to destroy this program. Remember: monitor your energy levels, make sure you’re feeling good, and watch you weight. You’re looking to lose about 50-70lbs of weight, but remember, you won’t be able to do so unless you’ve got enough energy to do the workouts. Make sure enough is going in, because TONS is going out right now as you burn it up with the exercise.
I’m really psyched for you, and the best part is that this could be the beginning of a total lifestyle transformation. I hope you don’t think I’m being too forward when I say that this is exactly the right time to change, to adopt healthy habits, because as soon as your child enters the world, they’ll be learning everything from you. The importance of health, exercise, diet, and living a happy, athletic lifestyle. I hope your goals and purpose trickle over to everybody around you, and that you become an agent for change for those you love as well as yourself!
I’m really excited to see how the next couple of months go, and if you ever find yourself losing enthusiasm or burning out, come back here and let me know. You’re on the right track, you’ve got all the right tools and motivation–now you just need to bring it! Best of luck, and keep in touch!
Phil,
Since i also take Cardio Kickboxing classes i was hoping that would take care of the extra cardio that Insanity provides. I want to be cut and have no more than 10% BF. For me the hardest part is the nutrition side of getting in shape. I love to workout so that is the easy part, but eating correctly is where i suffer. I try to stick around 2000 calories a day to help with my weight lost. Protein shake in the morning and at night after my workout.
Joseph,
Good luck on doing both P90X and Cardio Kickboxing at the same time–that’s going to be a brutal workout regimen. I would suggest you pause the kickboxing for the first couple of weeks, see how you take to the P90X, what your energy levels are like, and then add it in as you think you can manage it. Otherwise, if you’re determined to do the kickboxing, perhaps cut out some of the P90X cardio work. The best thing to do is to monitor your energy levels and not overtrain–that’s where the real danger lies. As for your nutrition plan, see if you can’t adopt the P90X guidelines. Sit down with the nutrition plan, and figure each week out one at a time, shopping specifically for each meal and planning them in advance. Nutrition is the most important part! Good luck, amigo, and keep in touch!
Phil,
Thank You for your advice. I just placed the order for the P90X set (Only paid $60. Good Deal, I think). I should be getting it by this weekend.
Alright guys, once I receive it I’ll keep you posted on my workouts, improvements, and body changes once every week for 90 days.
One other question………
If I start the p90X, Is it recommended to continue weight training the same day you do your p90x routine?
Is there any Thermogenic that you guys recommend to take?
Should i stop taking my supplements or continue? I currently take SuperPump250 and
Halo-Test 25……. Followed with a 30g of protein shake after the workout and 1hr before going to bed……..
Phil, I work out - a lot! I can put in an hour on an eliptical and another half hour on a treadmill running at 6.5 mph almost every day. The problem is I have stopped seeing results and actually have gained weight dispite all this cardio. I have tried P90X and started to feel like I was bulking up. I need something different. Do you suggest Insanity as a way to change things up? Need your advise. Thanks!
Hey Peter - hope you didn’t order from one of those ’special internet discount’ offers - anything below the full price is non-Beachbody approved, and is pretty much an illegal copy of dubious quality. Check out this post to understand my concerns. We’ve had people call in and ask for help once their knock off copy arrives missing DVD’s, workout calendar and such–it’s actually quite dangerous to buy from those guys! (Identity theft being the number #1 reported problem. Think about it–if those guys are unscrupulous enough to rip off a legit product, they won’t blink twice at selling off your credit card info.) Whom did you buy it from, if you don’t mind my asking? Was it a Beachbody affiliated coach or website? Note that I’m not trying to get you to buy P90X from us here at EFR (I don’t mind where you get it from), but rather am worried about your getting in trouble with a rip-off outfit.
Hey Peter,
I’d recommend you give your standard weight training a break as you get into P90X. It’s an extreme workout, and you should see how you handle it for the first couple of weeks before you add on even more! As for Thermogenics, can’t say that I can give you any substantive advice on that; maybe one of our viewers can?
As for supplements, definitely take what works for you. At the very least, a good protein shake is always a welcome addition to any diet!
Barbara - Insanity definitely sounds like the way to go! It won’t bulk you up, will be an awesome change of pace from all that low level cardio, and should help you shed that weight you’ve recently been putting. I think Insanity is perfect for your situation, and 100% urge you to try it. Let me know what you decide, and best of luck!
Insanity is great im on my recovery week. Is week 2 alot harder than week one i didnt know it could get more intense hope i can make it thorugh but im not shure what to do after insanity?Maybe do 10 minute trainer wich is for noobs idk i will try all the beachbody programs maybe do two easy ones at the same time to mix it up Brazil booty lift with Chalean extream? so many options but the thing is i have to workout daily to keep results b4 i would workout finish a program then stop working out its a life long term thing to do phil any recomendations on what to do and is mixing it up a good idea or not a good idea to go from intense workout to easy?
Heya Tyler,
I think you can go from an intense workout to easy, but expect to lose a lot of your gains over that amount of time. I think a natural and great way to follow up Insanity is to hit P90X, but that’s only if you want to keep up that level of intensity. Otherwise, scale it back to Power 90 or RevAbs–both are excellent, but just a little less intense. Best of luck!
Hello there, I’m 37 years old 5′.1″ and at 148 lbs. I don’t look it but I feel it, I’m pretty active, this is the biggest I have been since my daughter was born (she’s 8 now), after her birth I got back inshape with Tae-Bo, did that for many years, I kind of let myself go this past year and I’m starting to get back into it with turbo jam, I want to be tone not muscular, I’m curvy and want to maintain the girly sexy body, specially being as short as I am, I love cardio and now I’m interested in Insanity. I have been on Weight Watchers program for about 3 weeks now and have lost 9lbs, can I do Insanity with Weight Watchers low calorie diet or do I have to follow the diet plan that come with Insanity in order to see the results I’m looking for?, one more question when is the best time to work out in order to get the best weight loss results? I am Determined as I refuse to buy bigger size clothe I really don’t have a lot to wear these days.
Thank you for reading.
Hi Phil ~
I saw the Insanity infomercial last night and was thinking that it looked like an awesome workout…my curiosity led me to your blog. I am a 5′ 9,” 175 lb. attorney and mom of two kids under the age of 12 who has had enough of my “no time for me” lifestyle! I have packed on 25 lbs in the past few years and am done with feeling awful every day! My brother in law bought P90x and I’ve heard so much from friends about how awesome the Plyo workout is that I decided to give it a try a couple of weeks ago. Oh, and did I mention that I don’t think I’ve worked out in like 3 years and I had ACL reconstruction back in 2005? I’m sure you’re already snickering….and I admit, I’m laughing with you right now. Yes, a huge MISTAKE! 1 full hour of intensity, well, probably about 50 minutes taking into account the 10 minutes of walking in circles around my house trying to catch my breath….but, I finished! I was so proud of myself…I couldn’t believe that I had it in me. The down side hit me the next day….could hardly swing my legs off the bed and could barely walk for almost a week! I think that week gave my husband the best laughs of our 16 year marriage!
Anyway, being that you seem to be giving everyone such great advice on this page, I thought I would ask what your thoughts are on a workout for me…one who hasn’t worked out for years, but who has finally made the decision that it is time to get the old me back! I am going to keep P90x on the back burner for now, and my thoughts of Insanity are well, out the window. Any expertise you would be willing to offer would be greatly appreciated!
One more question!!! sorry, how great would it be for me to do INSANITY and the Brazil Butt Lift, would I get better results?
Ok I’m done now!
Thank you in advance, cant wait to read your responce.
Mary,
Kudos on your journey so far, and I’m excited for the next leg of your trip! My gut instinct here is for you to tackle Brazil Butt Lift first, if only because you’re not looking to become lean and mean but rather want to hold onto those beautiful curves while sticking to a restricted diet. Insanity does require a higher caloric intake simply because you burn so much–you can’t do the workouts on a minimalist diet, and not simply droop and wilt like a flower without water
Brazil Butt Lift however is more focused on developing your curves without bulking you up, and was, as you no doubt already know, designed by the trainer of the Victoria Secret models. It’s fun, set to infectious samba music, and is pure cardio with just a little bit of resistance work thrown in during the ‘Sculpt’ workout. Give it a shot, and if you don’t like it, you can send it back within 30 days, no questions asked. Also, I think you could stick to your weight watcher’s diet while on it, as long as you focus on maintaining a good sense of energy and look forward to the workouts.
Let me know what you decide, and bet of luck!
Laurie, I love both your good humor and determination! I think you have the perfect mindset to start your journey back to fitness and optimum health, and it’s great that you’re finally prioritizing yourself. I say, attack these workouts, destroy them, drop that weight, get that old energy back, and live life to the max! With your daughters getting older, this is the perfect time to do precisely that, and I think you’re going to do great.
Now, let’s focus on some realistic goals. Given your surgery, your current conditioning and lack of recent exercise, I’d definitely agree that P90X and Insanity should wait. Not forever… but at least a few months still. Instead, I would recommend that you go with either Turbo Jam or the Brazil Butt Lift, depending on your style. Both are EXCELLENT, and have dedicated followers, and while they’re both cardio, they differ in their approach. Turbo Jam is a high energy kickboxing workout, while Brazil Butt Lift is a dance based workout that mixes samba, ballet and cardio together and is set to great Brazilian music. You can’t go wrong with either of these, it simply depends on what kind of cardio you’d like to do.
Now, focus on this next part, because it’s the most important: nothing you do will matter if you don’t lock down on your nutrition plan. These workouts come with a nutrition guide, but unless you realize that nutrition is THE most important part of all this, more important even than the workouts themselves, you won’t get very far along your goals. So realize that you’re heading for a total lifestyle change–you’re not just adding a 30 minute workout at the end of each day, but rather going to be taking a close look at what you–and your family–eat every day. If you’re going to get healthy, you might as well take is as seriously as you can!
So go ahead and check out those two workouts, see what you think, and if you have any follow up questions let me know. One thing I’m confident about, however, is that in about three or four months you’re going to be in great shape, and ready to take on the really tough workouts like P90X and Insanity, and truly change your body for the best! Good luck, and keep in touch!
Phil,
I ordered the DVD (p90x) from “DiscountDVDSets.com” I paid them through paypal.
You made me think. I called them to get a status on my order. An asian guy answered my call. I asked him where my package was being shipped from. He advised me that it was coming from China. The company is in China (Wow…. Big Mistake… Capital of counterfits). I asked him regarding my status. He told me that my package was still in the warehouse. I attempted to cancel He was making it hard. At the end, they ended up canceling my order. I checked paypal, they never charged me anything. I called paypal just in case.
So, I just ordered p90x from the “Offical BeachBody website.” It was $151 and change. Hopefully its a good investment. So now I need to wait around 5 days to receive my package.
Thank You for the heads up……
